Wolfburn makes itself, another well-made whisky, I'm looking forward to the first 10-year-old.
    • Nose
Sweetish, vanilla and honey, subtle, pleasant smoky note
    • Taste
Creamy with honey and vanilla, also here a subtle smoky note
    • Finish
Very long, mouth-filling, like caramel with a delicate smoke

The no. 204 is Wolfburn's fifth small batch release. The batch includes 5,000 bottles and was released in 2020. The whisky first matured in bourbon barrels for five years and was then finished in fresh Madeira hogsheads for six months. The whisky is light golden, with good will a reddish hue can be seen.

    • Nose
The first impression when nosing: This Wolfburn is also young. It has a young bitterness, unripe pear, grassy aromas. In the background is some fermenting wine. There are also lactic acid notes, yoghurt with apricot.
    • Taste
It has a certain sweetness, but then there isn't much. Young, sweet and therefore much too strong alcohol. Weak chocolate, possibly traces of Madeira somewhere. But above all young bitterness. The combination of immature sweetness and bitterness is not pretty. It's too watery and flat - and yet the alcohol burns.
    • Finish
The finish is metallically bitter and alcoholic.

No, it's not good. This whisky is also too young and not matured enough. It doesn't fit, the alcohol is poorly integrated and the aromas are too weak. The bourbon barrels weren't good and didn't contribute much vanilla. And the Madeira Hogsheads didn't improve that either.

    the taste

    • Nose
Plum, apricot, vanilla, honey, slightly sour.
    • Taste
Sweet. Dark caramel, rubbery (lovely edge from the Madeira barrel, I think). Ripe plum. Lemon. hazelnuts. Cinnamon.

  9. MrDvorak scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

The scent is a wet old sweater, a dusty barn, unripe yellow fruit and dough. Taste with sourness, rather buttery with notes of white grapes, apples and vanilla. The finish is medium, spicy, with fermented berries and oak.

Farming, quite simple, if you do not know what it is finished in, then you won’t think out too much, neatly and moderately hardened, good.

    RATING: 84pts - | 83 - 86 (B) → Good | - Not a “must”, but a nice-to-have.

Easy drinking and enjoyable for what it is.

  12. ffmdino did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

this is not a malt for me; too many strange notes
Where's the influence on tap? I would have expected more
    • Nose
starts thin, very earthy, banana decreases, vanilin sugar, becomes slightly cheesy, medium-old malt, minimal smoke
      Banana comes back late

from 1920s: sweet, wall paint, asparagus water, earthy, banana
with water: the earth note becomes even stronger
    • Taste
soft and silky on the palate
Banana, a note that I cannot name, oak, spicy, slightly jelly, will come tart, wine-like notes, slightly chemical notes will be more, later roast, ham from the pan, laboratory insulation
    • Finish
      medium long
Oak, tart, slightly bitter, an earthy note like on a construction site, a note that I cannot specify

  13. Robinzon25 scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

A colorful, loud, mischievous drunken scotch with a juicy sweet and sour berry character.
    • Nose
Wine, with a light trail of fermented berries, with shades of wool, belly, old skin, baba and carnation.
    • Taste
Sweet and sour, berry, slightly malty, oak.
    • Finish
Medium duration, bright, spicy, full of berry and fruity tones, with a moderate malt content and a delicate oak influence.
