Some lovely old and classy flavours that ultimately fight a losing battle against the woods. What’s there is nice, but perhaps a little underwhelming for what you’d expect.

Tasted against the 35 year and 40 year old. It was my least favourite of the three, with the 40 winning it for me.
    • Nose

Sharp wood. Condensed wood oils and sap. Black tea, lots of mint, leather, ink, and perhaps a thin coating of wax. The wood is doing a little too much already.
    • Taste
      90 90
Surprisingly soft and creamy. Chocolate truffle, candied orange, black licorice, inky. Leather, tobacco, honey and beeswax. Lovely palate.
    • Finish
      87 87
Tannins grow into a long a drying finish. Black tea, all that. The wood kind of takes over, and while it’s not bad at all, it doesn’t leave lots of room for complexity.

@Jesus-Whisky, you gave this 96 points with the single word, "Excellent". What was excellent, the price, box, smell?

elegant aromatic, very fine and slightly spicy notes of different woods, slightly fruity, hint of orange but also apple aromas (one of them grated;)), fine sherry notes, spices, a little herbal, spicy honey. A hint of smoke.

Looks more mature and finer than the 35, the wood has left more traces here.
    • Taste
      93 93
also here elegant and gentle with aromas of different woods (hint of Dalmore), a hint of perfumed, has a noble effect, finest spicy notes, gently spicy, slightly sweet and spicy, honey, a hint of barrel / coffee, old oak cabinet, very harmonious, very tasty.
    • Finish
      91 91
at first a little fruity and spicy, then a bit tart with wood / oak, slightly spicy, hint of chocolate. Balanced and long lasting.
For me a very good, elegant and finely aged whisky.

in a complex, balanced single malt with smooth sherry aromas, a subtle oak spice and sweet fruit-honey aromas. I like the nose very much because it is very varied and harmonious. I like the Benromach 45 very much in the nose and on the palate, but it doesn't completely knock me off my chair. Unfortunately, the finish doesn't quite meet my taste. In my opinion, there is an aroma here (earthy, moist soil) which unfortunately does not appeal to me and therefore leads to a not so good rating in the finish! However, this is now grumbling at a very high level, but we are also dealing with a 45-year-old whisky for EUR 995, so criticism may also be appropriate.

The nose begins with wonderful, ripe but also very smooth sherry aromas. Warm fruit complote with cooked red apples, dry plums, raisins, brown sugar and a little stronger honey and malt. In addition, there is a light oak flavor. In the background, refreshing menthol and lemon zest.
    • Taste
      87 87
A spicy start with pepper welcomes me. I hear creamy milk chocolate, berries, brown sugar and a subtle oak note. Slightly earthy and leathery.
    • Finish
      82 82
Long and somewhat dry, with leather, red berries, a mild spice and herbs. Something bothers me in the finish, however, an elusive aroma that tends towards earthy, moist soil / wet grain. At first I even thought of a kind of fish sauce (the fishy one flies away in seconds). Unfortunately, the aroma was also present at the tasting the following day.
