Since 2018, the high-proof bottling has been added to the standard range of Ian MacLeod's well-known Islay brand. With the High Voltage, the name says it all, since the single malt with 58.0% vol. comes along and was therefore bottled close to the cask strength.
    • Nose
Smoke and peat notes, maritime notes as well as citrus, vanilla and cereals.
    • Taste
Sweet smoke and fresh citrus notes. Add vanilla and nuts.
    • Finish
Long lasting and powerful. A mix of liquorice and salt

Not my favorite Smokehead. Restrained smoke on the nose. Some vanilla sweetness on the palate, then a sour note and a smoky, bitter note with a bit of dryness in the finish.

  4. FritzeKrautman scored this whisky 82 points Connoisseur

Well, you get what you expect. A young, maritime smoker with strong alcohol and hardly any barrel influences.
    • Nose
      81 81
Smoke, bacon, spices, citrus, pungent alcohol, later subtle dark fruits
    • Taste
      83 83
Sweetness, salt, soap, smoke, ash, malt, alcohol slowly coming up
    • Finish
      82 82
Medium length finish with smoke, salt, bitterness, strong alcohol, some chocolate

Very medicinal and smoky, it is not a rounded old malt :D, but people don’t take it for that.

    worth a try

Some kind of strange aroma, like a chimney, but there is something indistinctly incomprehensible in the aroma. But in general, it's simple. Tiny in the aroma, young, so far, most of all pleases the design of the tube / bottle) Although the aftertaste is pleasant, palpable.

  9. thijs100 scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

Delivers on strength but a little less on complexity.
    • Nose
Surprisingly approachable with notes of vanilla and marzipan accompanied by vegetal peat, green olives, brine and almond paste. Soft whispers of raw oak and lemon peel too.
    • Taste
Certainly more aggressive because of its higher ABV, but not by much considering. A sweet arrival highlighted by vanilla, quickly followed by lemon pith, but also rubber, vegetal peat and shoe polish. Touches of black pepper too.
    • Finish
      Lingering smoke. Fairly long.

  10. Igor_Gudimov scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
At the top - prominent green grass, middle - sweet meaty, salty, smoky peat
    • Taste
Cream, alcohol bite, black pepper, salt, meaty sweetness, and sunflower seeds
    • Finish
      Long, dry, ashy resin
