Beautiful, complex nose with a fine blend of smoke and fruitiness. Not quite as convincing on the palate, but still acceptable.

At first a fruit bomb - fully ripe yellow fruits, pigeon must, peach, apricot, honeydew melon; then a spicy, maybe even slightly smoky note comes through. Over time I also find sweet pastries, sugar cake, honey, maybe even some berries. The alcohol is extremely well integrated. A very impressive aroma, I have the impression of an older bottling, looks round, deep, complex. At first I thought of an old bourbon cask bottling, but later aromas reminiscent of wine casks are added.
    • Taste
      89 89
Soft at first, almost oily, spicy, bitter. Then comes a very powerful start from the surprisingly high alcohol content, a clear spiciness of chilli, becoming a bit sweeter over time, nicely spicy, grape seeds, walnut, some oak, ash.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium length and comparatively unspectacular. Milk coffee, chocolate, vanilla, subtle sour fruit.

Not at all heavily peated on the nose. Fruity notes are dominant here, smoke can only be guessed in the background.
Initially fruity on the tongue, but then the smoke is clearly noticeable.
The finish is long and the smoke coats the tongue. In addition, the sweetness of the Ruby Port flashes here.
    A really great malt.

Opposite the Glendronach 10J. Portwood, which I had before, a revelation. But overall more in the middle. I prefer the Benriach Solstice 17 J. by far. The smoke here is only very delicate and has a more supporting character in the overall picture. For people who don't like smoke, maybe already too much, but for people (like me) who were just looking forward to the smoke alongside the nice fruit flavors, it's a bit too muted. The fruit notes are definitely great and also bring a pretty strong sweetness.
If only the sticky, musty notes were a little less concise...
    • Nose
      87 87
Very light and delicate smoke, interwoven with full, dark red fruit aromas. Campfire two kilometers away, a hint of fresh cigar tobacco, pickled plums, maple syrup, tangerine cream cake with grated dark chocolate, some vanilla, summery punch with white wine and sparkling wine, apricot jam, a hint of oak spice.
    • Taste
      87 87
Also on the palate just a hint of smoke with herbal notes (burnt leaves). Slightly oily body, also brings alcoholic sharpness with it. It tolerates water surprisingly well. Cherries, chocolate, marzipan, canned apricots, the famous Campbeltown cardboard, cherries (sugared and pickled), light European oak.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium finish. Slightly dry and tart. A bit of smoke, cardboard, some mustiness, tobacco, dark chocolate with cherries, espresso, leather.

    01/13/2022:
Drinking, bar version of whisky, cool, consistent, bright, multifaceted, constantly adds nuances. I would be happy to get it out of the bar.
    • Nose
Bright, juicy fruit, mineral, a little hazy, notes of smoked peat (gently), vanilla, oak, tartaric acid (port is obvious), burnt sugar, rotten foam, canned peaches, paints, marmalade in sugar, passion fruit, dessert white wine , med.
    • Taste
Sour, berry, smoky, very juicy, thick, sticky sweet, spices, tincture (herbal liqueur), peat.
    • Finish
Smoke, pepper, sour berries and fruits, sticky, peat, longer than average, a mixture of spices, dried herbs (tincture), candied pineapple, oak, knits.

Fruity, sweet and creamy whisky, the peat smoke is nicely integrated, no flaws, but lacking complexity for its age
