    Serge says;

Springbank 10 yo (46%, OB, +/-2009)  I liked the new 10 a lot when I tried it two years ago, let’s see how it evolved. I already tried it blind and scored it 88, which is very high for an entry-level whisky. Colour: straw. Nose: I’m very glad to report that Springbank’s style is now almost the same as it was in the 1960s or early 1970s, which the comparison with the old 5 shows well. Phenolic, mineral, waxy, briney, coastal (seashells) and farmy (‘farmyard after the rain’), resinous (pine needles)… Truly beautiful. Still hints of bitter oranges but less so than in earlier recent Springbanks. Mouth: wow! Fat and oily, much peatier than other Springbanks, as if they had thrown a few casks of Longrow into the vatting. Peppery, salty, waxy, lemony, orangey… Just great. Finish: long, lemony, peaty and peppery. Comments: up up up. I don’t know if all the recent batches of the 10 are like this one but when they are… SGP:454 - 89 points.

    Springbank 10 yo
    (46%, OB 2009, batch 09/434)

Nose: a classic Springbank profile with a wide range of aromas. Starts on tangerine, with added notes of lemon peel, green apples and pears. Dry oak. Maritime notes with a bit of ‘wet dog’. Hints of sharp, earthy peat as well. After a while, the fruitiness becomes bigger and rounder. Mouth: very oily and extremely coating. Very peaty as well, much more peat than I expected. Rather spicy, with mostly pepper and nutmeg coming out. Roasted nuts in the background. A faint hint of sour notes (vinegar?) in the aftertaste. Becomes a bit perfumed with water, so I recommend it straight. Finish: long, peaty and briney.

This is a surprisingly complex dram. A very consistent opener of the range! Around € 35.

    Score: 86/100

Builds up to a great whisky. The nose isn't that impressive, the taste is ok, the finish is rather great.
    • Nose
Quite peaty. Citrus fruit, wood and some malt. A little prickly.
    • Taste
Drying on the tongue, very peaty, a nice tingle. After that incredibly sweet. Fruits and malt, vanilla and oak.
    • Finish
Warming and lovely. The peat lingers, supporting the sweetness of vanilla and fruits right to the end.

Very surprisingly a bit from Cambeltown, the references did not lie. With the products of this distillery, I will have a good date again in the future.
    • Nose
Is that Islay ?! The iodine was softened by a floral or rather straw scent, I would have liked it a bit like the recently tested Caol Ila 13 by Chieftains, huh?
    • Taste
Dense, peaty, spicy, pleasant grepish bitterness, with a beautiful ending.

Certainly not one of my favorite whiskies. Maybe because it's not a Speyside one and i don't like peat....
    • Nose
At first: smoke ! Also leather, malt and a hint of salty
    • Taste
A little peaty. After that sweet like marshmellows. Also a pleasant little bitterness
    • Finish
The peat dominates, even through the sweetness. There is also a little bitterness. The finish is medium.

    Oily mouth-feel.

Overall, not to my liking at all.

(I've got no notes on the color, but it's not gin clear for sure.)
    • Nose
      Raw alcohol, vodka. Vanilla.
    • Taste
Bites too hard. Pear. Something similar to Yoichi 10 yo.
    • Finish
Best part of this whisky, but still nothing to brag about.
