    15ml/¥300@Isetan.

    Appearance: Deep orange-brown.

Nose: Huge sherry. Raisin, old oak, cinnamon.
Palate: Hot, of course. Sherry, oak, raisins, wax, berries, milk chocolate.

Finish: Peppery, oaky, sherry and raisins, chocolate, cinnamon spice.

With Water: Needs to a lot to appreciate.

Overall: A massive young sherry bomb. The sherry might just be overwhelming. It is very interesting but slightly out of balance. Like it though.

    Kilkerran 8yo Cask Strength 57.1%

In a nutshell (SMWS-style name): “Violet Rhubarb Pie”

•Nose: Rose water, crème de violette, rhubarb, sour raspberry, rotten plums, cigar box in the basement, allspice.

•Taste: Really carries through from the nose, but with less fruit. Rose water and crème de violette again as the floral side takes center stage, dry rhubarb, leathery in a noticeably springbanky way, lemon custard, . Dries out with leafy rhubarb.

    Score: A-

Cracking stuff from Kilkerran. Surprisingly floral. I’m glad they ditched the ex-bourbon profile for this (even though the Work in Progress ex-bourbon cask strength was /chef’s kiss). I’ve only had this of the new sherry 8yos but off to a great start.

Serge gave this a very respectable 88. Probably would have gone higher if it were not as bombed a sherry which covered some of the Kilkerran, so for those that like the bomb, take heart you will like it

Kilkerran 8 YO Cask Strength (2019) (57.1%). First consumed Jan 2020. Dark orange colour. Aroma very oloroso. Dates fruity sherry apple. Not overly complex lots of sherry. Taste is fruity and pungent, quite an alcoholic kick but at a nice level not too hot at all. Rich sherry character with not much peat at all. Much closer to sherry bomb territory than peaty, although the peat maybe builds with time. Slightly disjointed character I'm not sure the spirit has enough complexity to complement the barrel. Slight chocolatey note comes in. Maybe too much gloopy sherry making this taste like a cognac. I have had a full bottle of this for nearly 18 months and I've only drunk 1/8 of it so far, which maybe gives an indication of my feelings towards it. I will reserve judgement until I've had one or two more drams out of the bottle.
