    Again, even retailers in Germany do not hesitate to sell this bottling for insane prices (eg. 299,- at Whiskyburg Wittlich or 399,- at feinste-weine at the time of writing) at market release.

    I don't mind to pay a little extra to a whisky shop, instead of supporting a flipper, but such robbery is absolutely unacceptable!

    Is this the way how Springbank wants to be promoted? This has become a really big issue for the German distribution (hawe-bremen) of Springbank and such business practices should be punished (same goes for Daftmill allocations though - Kirsch).

    Retail price in germany: 115€ (I guess...)

    There was a package offer from a german shop that lastet for about 15 minutes:
    Pay 250€ to buy one bottle of Glen Scotia 10yo Peated (around 35€) and have 100€ donated to charity. Which leaves 115€ for this bottle of Springbank local barley.

    It is a flawless, young sherry dram. No bad notes, the typical Springbank character shines through. It also can't hide its young age, so from a drinking perspective it is rather boring imho.
    But very drinkable nevertheless.

    In terms of opening a bottle for drinking:
    I would pay around 70€ per bottle, maybe up to 100€ because of the local barley bonus, as this more or less makes such bottlings more expensive.

    But I'm sure other participants will enjoy it more, than I did. It is a shame, that most bottles of this release will never be opened, the prices are ridiculous.

    Simple, very sherry, not Cambeltown enough for my taste but it is a quality batch.

      very neutral for a Cambeltown, the sherry crushes everything.
      Alcohol is good.

      On the classic notes of a good Oloroso, rancio.

    EYE / NOSE
    Fat, dark sherry tone. The inclined color drinker gets shiny eyes just by looking. The scent also transports me to Springbank's cold, damp Dunnage warehouses. You think you can literally grasp the earthy floors, the damp wood and the musty stone walls. As soon as I start to write down my first impressions, the LB changes and smoky porridge spreads. Or are they smoky Weetabix with warm milk? Tree resin, fir honey - a colorful bouquet of aromas. Fruity notes join in the background. The Oloroso brings plenty of sweetness. Unusual. Heavy blackberry wine and sweet plum must. The barrel strength of the whisky looks neatly under control in the nose.

    Woohoo ... it rolls in very powerfully. Another typical Springbank - exceptionally powerful on the palate, but not alcoholic in the 'biting' sense. Great, oily-creamy mouthfeel. The alcohol is in fact integrated absolutely clean, as the experiment on the palate now shows. No one needs water here, even if the LB proves to be a good swimmer. But as is so often the case, water gives some things, but takes other things. I like the LB best in its pure form. The 12-15 PPM peat smoke, which is very present here, is also very powerful. Amazingly fat sherry influence, which characterizes the malt in its entirety. There is also an interesting flavor that opens up another dimension. I make a note of salted almonds, marjoram and a little pepper. Very exciting in combination with the concise sherry sweetness. Overall, much more complex than you might think. That's what I often like about LBs. Nice, dirty Springbank 'Funk' rounds off the fun. Sulfur? If you like sulfur, we recommend the current batch of Kilkerran 8, which I found unexpectedly very sulphurous. Not mine at all.

    Typical, steadily drier, peaty Oloroso finish. In terms of the quality of the malt, a decent piece over the good (!) Last 12 CS batches, for my simple taste. A really great, strong malt that gives me all-round fun. Of course, very different from the grandiose old LB bottling from the 1990s, which sparked my love for Springbank at the time, but you can see that a good modern sherrymalt can also inspire.

    This Springbank Local Barley is really fun!

      Typical Sherry Springbank Funk, nutty, cowshed note, minerally wet granite, juniper berries, smoky bacon, resin note, pleasant sweetness, a pinch of sulfur, meaty, light butteriness, the alcohol is nicely integrated.
    • Taste
      91 91
      Wide start, extremely complex, creamy, noble filth, mineral, meaty, black pepper, berry selection. Nice smoke that sticks in the mouth looks smokier than most Springbank bottlings. With water it opens even more and makes the whisky appear very round.
    • Finish
      90 90
      Very long finish that slowly fades away. A pleasant sweetness remains present until the end. Pleasant, slightly dry finish.

    Excellent sherry-matured Springbank, no sulphur at all. The distillery character is not completely overwhelmed by the intense sherry notes, the alcohol is well integrated. Water brings out cream toffee and grapefruit.
    I can imagine the whisky will benefit from sitting in an open bottle for a couple of months.

    Is it worth its original retail price? For my personal tastes, definitely.
    Is it worth its inflated secondary market price? Not even close..

    A powerhouse but it’s the balance that makes this dram. Complex layers on the nose, perfect alc content. Long long finish. Dreamdram

    Quite complex for its young age, good balance between spice and sweetness, I can imagine that with some more air time after opening the bottle it would develop and become even more drinkable - completely different than the 16yo LB which was my favorite young LB so far but same rating because it is a remarkable sherry dram for these days - very good!

      Dried fruits, dates, toffee, little espresso, old wooden cabinet, furniture polish, spices, little nutmeg, cardamom, little meaty, beefstock, hints of brown sugar, whiffs of smoke and (good) leather - great!

      Punchy, oily, creamy, good sweetness, little liquorice, more dried fruits, plums, dates, figs, more brown sugar, hints of molasses, toffee, chocolate, sherry wood, some menthol and eucalyptus, hints of leather, spicy, little herbal - very good!

      Medium long, warm, little more wood, little earthy, more spicy, little herbal, tannic, not drying - a few drops of water recommended

    A very special dram. 100% sherry, but completely different from what I am used to from sherry. Very fruity and sweet, but beautifully balanced with the effect of the wood. Awesome.

      Beeswax, dark wet wood, raspberry, cinnamon sticks, strawberry, fruity and sweet, but almost no typical sherry. Very sweet almost candy-like. No bitter, no cocoa for example. Beautifully balanced!

      Finish lasts a long time, the sweet remains. The wood influences too. Enjoy a long time afterwards.

    Just have a quick look - oh yes, Springbank was what was in the glass. Find it without a magnifying glass.
    Well done without a doubt, but not what you'd expect from Springbank. Now it seems to be really fashionable to squeeze your whisky through sherry barrels in order to end up without distillery character (compare Laphroaig 10 Sherry Oak Finish).

      A sweet and heavy scent of overripe grapes, raisins, prunes and dried figs. Moist forest floor and slightly rotten wood. Here and there machine oil flashes and the impression of a warm unit flashes, but only for a split second - the sherry barrels have done a great job, so that the sherry aromas absolutely dominate.
      Spicy with juniper berries and nutmeg, a little caramel.

      Dry start with enormous fruity sweetness. Grape must, raisins, prunes. Spiced dark chocolate, with nutmeg, cloves and cardamom added to the spice mix with a good pinch of pepper. The dry impression increases increasingly, after a while there is a minty freshness that makes it a bit pointed on the tongue. Sugar beet syrup, creme brulee, fudge.

      Medium length, but you can tell that he's in a bit of a hurry to get behind the curtain, probably remove make-up and such. Menthol, pepper, dark, crumbly chocolate.
