with water: the more water you add to get the pepper under control, the more it shows its youthful character, bright fruit and Newmake notes are added

Conclusion: a good sherry cask that cannot hide the youthful whisky, nothing remains of the distillery character. Man, the thing with 12 or 15 years of maturity would be a burner. But unfortunately it remains a very young whisky that is covered with sherry.
    • Nose
clear sherry with some notes of lovage, rather sharp alcohol, pencil point, some plum jam, Blasamic vinegar and plum jam, quite fat sherry, but not everything harmonious
    • Taste
      Sherry, Holz, hot/chilli, pfeffrig
    • Finish
quite short, sherry, wood, some clove

I would be very interested in what the distillery can do. Difficult to rate based on this malt. You can buy good barrels. This bottling shows that. But nothing more. The distillate is so overwhelmed by the heavy barrel.
Generally quite good. In the nose I don't like that there is a note of pine needles/mountain pine. In addition, an increasing acetic acid. In terms of taste, it is surprising what the barrel gives off in such a short time.
But what - apart from the "color" - justifies the surcharge in the secondary market at the already not very cheap issue price for 50cl remains incomprehensible to me.

This was the 1st cask strength from the Glasgow distillery. It even has something of a dronach, really good... Must correct something upwards again... If it is open longer, it becomes rounder..
    • Nose
      89 89
Modern sherry profile, a bit fake but tasty, dark berry coffee and cocoa

Nougat and coffee come through better with water, recommended.
    • Taste
      89 89
Sherry, something like cola, dark berries, but the distillery character is not recognizable. Even light leather and malt.

With water, some fruit comes through, plums, raisins and blood orange with milk chocolate, also recommended. Some caramel and cherries
    • Finish
      88 88
Shortly after sherry, but a bit fake. With water it becomes softer and better

It is really difficult for me to stay fair here, because I now compare it a bit wacky with "food and glutamate". There are people who are looking for exactly that and who like to eat. But that has always been an issue for me. And although I don't know the process of how to transport these intense / elegant sherry aromas into a bottle in such a short time, I now claim, very cheeky, that this whisky has the simple format "Sherry Beast". The alcohol is intense above all but well integrated and it becomes clear how intense the sherry comes through here. All very elegant and mouth-flattering. On the palate, there are mainly two topics that preoccupy you. The alcohol & sherry. So I would even speak of one-dimensional. Or as I often say, you drive on the sherry one-way street. However, I honestly have to admit that, with a Bentley. But for me personally this is exactly this "modern type" of whisky that I don't prefer. Like the glutamate in food. I would also like to briefly address the PLV and everyone should think consciously now! An outer packaging "bigger" than many others. Inside there is only a 50cl bottle "padded" and the issue price is already doubled 2 days later. Question to the nation: Do / should we get used to this format? ...? In any case, I would like to thank André for the generous rehearsal and send a warm greeting to Schleusingen in the archive under the beautiful castle :))

PS. My honest respect goes out to the manufacturers, because this whisky is looking for its equal and will find many lovers. A unicorn among the 5 year olds.
I even say: Milestone "Welcome to the new world of whisky!"

    • Nose
a peppery start, orange and red fruits in jam,
intense ester notes between fruity and soapy,
a wonderful sherry seasoning topped with fresh tobacco.
I am pleasantly surprised what an intense nose in such a young mind.
    • Taste
      sweet - spicy
    • Finish
a nice, sweet sherry flavor remains in the finish,
      with tobacco influences

What yummy stuff. Five years, no, no, no I can't believe it. More like a 25 year old whisky. A full fruit bomb, intense, full aromas, cherries, raisins. Candied orange, dark berries. Pleasantly full and intense with a long finish. A very good barrel. I am very impressed. A highlight! The bottle doesn't last long. I drank 20 year old whisky, 25 year old, 30 year old. Open a bottle !!! what a cool stuff.

At first cautious, then strong alcohol and then the malt opens slowly.

Reached me as a "secret sample gift" as I try to avoid new/fresh/hip distilleries recently I avoided a bottle split within our group... but still got a sample.

    And boy, was I wrong.
For its age, very solid for me in every way.
Nose, Mouth (what a punch!), Finish.

    WELL DONE!
(87 from me, wich is outstanding for age and initial price of this whisky).
Guess gonna have an eye on following releases.

  20. LeChiffre scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

It's always impressive what a good barrel can do, and this must definitely have been a good sherry butt. The barrel has left its mark on the malt, but the young age cannot be completely hidden. All in all a very nice malt on the nose, but unfortunately too young for me.
    • Nose
      89 89
Alcohol noticeable in the nose but astonishingly well integrated in 62%; sweet and dark fruity; Berry; dark cherries; Orange notes; Raisins; Caramel; nice spicy notes; Cinnamon; some vanilla; in addition a harmoniously integrated noticeably woody spice
      - beautiful, intense sherry profile, looks older than 5 years
    • Taste
      87 87
sweet start; slightly creamy; Raisins; Orange; Cherry; Spices; delicate tart oak seasoning; wow the barrel has already worked properly here
    • Finish
      85 85
slightly bitter woody spice; delicate fruit notes; Spices; here the youth can get through a bit

The 0.5l bottle for just under 80 euros is ambitious for a 5 year old whisky. But worth the price. I wouldn't spend more than that.

Tolerates water, I diluted it to 53%.
    • Nose
      90 90
Full and round. Cherry, cotton candy, orange zest, dark berries, dark raisins. caramel
    • Taste
      89 89
Creamy. Sweet. Caramel and ripe orange, cherry, red currant.
    • Finish
      88 88
Becomes slightly bitter. Orange jam, espresso and a delicate note of oak remain. Medium length.

Sophisticated sherry whisky despite its young age
    • Nose

Herbal, woody, bubbly, something sticks in the nose, but also nice sherry sweetness
    • Taste

Raisin sweetness, significantly better than the nose, somewhat dry / astringent,
    • Finish
      84 84
Very elegant, a little under-complex, finishes nicely

  25. BehindSpace scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

good whisky for its young age...

...but it can't hide its youth.

needs a good amount of water, otherwise its way too alcoholic and sharp.

    swims very good though

    overpriced nontheless
