Herbal tart and a few light fruits, the alcohol is not fully integrated, but does not attract attention, good strength where you can tickle out a few flavors with a few drops of water and it removes the youthful sharpness. Good everyday dram.

Really nice whisky, smooth and easy due to the abv. Perfect as a starter or during the week

N: With a sherried sulphury pong aplenty, it’s more of a generally ‘sherriedness’ in character, with only a little of that particularly idiosyncratic rubbery pong that I know Rothes for – more syrup over rubber, let’s say.

T: On the bitter-sweet side, slightly charred, slightly chalky and,… innocuous.

F: Salty sour bitter sweet creamy action,… all good.

C: I’ve been a fan of Glenrothes in the past, but this I find this expression – much like many of the official bottlings – somewhat cask-obvious and generic. And the spirit? Rather muted.

Compared to Mannochmore 2007, it is much tartier with more spicy oak, but less floral fruitiness.
    • Nose
Full, strong and tart oak, somewhat unusual spicy-sour note, reminiscent of alcohol, sweet and dark dried fruits
    • Taste
Sweet with strong spices and dark dried fruits, sherry, tart with strong oak
    • Finish
Long finish with spices, fruits and dryness

nice, quite young sherry whisky, not super complex, but very tasty and tasty. Beautiful sherry barrel maturation. You can drink it more often
    • Nose
dark and dried fruits, the alcohol is a bit present, it takes a little more time, then comes sweetness, plums, light notes of orange peel
    • Taste
a bit of pepper spiciness at the beginning, then come the dried fruits and plums, becoming slightly sweet. Later a little spicy and a herbal note
    • Finish
Spicy finish with a nice sherry note, these notes stay on the palate and in the throat for a long time. Very pleasant

Other winner from Carn Mor and another wonderfully sherried Glenrothes. Very easy to drink as usual. Value (£56) : 8/10
    • Nose
Heavy toffee sweetness up front. Then the sweet stewed fruits come through. Plums, sultanas, apricots, and dried figs. Thick sticky raisins too. A light ginger spice, almost like gingerbread and a candied orange peel note. Some balsamic vinegar and hazelnuts. Some cinnamon and cloves and also some herbal aniseed. A light cooling mint.
    • Taste
Clean sherry influence. A lovely sweet palate, carried by a mouth coating texture. More toffee and burnt caramel this time round. Vanilla custard pudding with tons of berries in them. Rum soaked raisins. A touch of salt that enhances the raisin flavour. Develops into a slight bittersweet note of dark chocolate/ cocoa. Then a little sprinkle of black pepper.
    • Finish
A yeasty breadiness. More dark chocolate and spice here. The overt sweetness has calmed down leaving behind a warming sensation on the finish. More sweet dessert spice from the oak. Some drying tannins leave some notes of tobacco leaves and more aniseed.

Tasted as part of a Carn Mor relaunch vtasting with
Niel Hendriksz and the Southport Whisky Club.

Nose: burnt sugar, cinder toffee, allspice, Peking duck, Cadburys Fruit and Nut, espresso powder.
    Palate: steamed pudding in custard
Finish: candied ginger, Caramac bars and vanilla bean

    With water

Nose: ginger nut biscuits, brazils nuts, hoisin sauce, balsamic vinegar and a blueberry reduction.
Palate: tastes watery with water which makes it sweeter, glides down the throat. Not too expressive, the only discerning note I get out of it is toasted almonds.
Finish: white chocolate, tonka bean, vanilla ice cream, an affogato in a glass.

I rarely like sherried Glenrothes but this is excellent, definitely the most expressive dram of the evening and probably my joint favourite alongside the Ardmore.
