A well priced and perfectly presented malt from the recent relaunch of Carn Mor. Although the packaging may have. changed, it's good to see that the quality of the spirit is exactly the same. Value (£45) : 9/10
    • Nose
A wonderful combination of peat and sherry casks with both varieties leaving a mark. Classic red fruits, cranberries, orange peels. The Oloroso brings a touch of nuttiness while the PX brings a sweet treacle note. Spice from the sherry oak is also ever present with cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and cloves. The peat here is light but noticeable. much like light embers from a bonfire. Drying tobacco notes and a light sharpness of chilli heat.
    • Taste
Sweet and spicy. More caramel sweetness and touch of honey. Mouthcoating texture and wonderfully balanced alcohol. More berries, mandarins, cherries and plums. Smoky lapsang souchong tea now. More of those spices carry over from the nose. Some milk chocolate. This is dangerously drinkable. The smoke is quite subdued on the initial palate but develops into a much deeper, richer peat note.
    • Finish
The peat is dominant in the finish. It is now quite medicinal (reminiscent of Laphroaig peat, though maybe just the power of suggestion being Ardmore) A touch drying but long lasting due to the viscosity of the dram. I'm getting more dark chocolate and black forest now.

If you give it some time in the glass, very well for only 9 years.
    • Nose
Brown sugar and dark dried fruits, fine smoke,
some fruity gummy bears, empty glass smells of pipe tobacco
    • Taste
Smoky and sweet, fruity, slightly soapy notes, spicy, oak
    • Finish
Sweet with fine spices and smoke

Tasted as part of a Carn Mor relaunch vtasting with
Niel Hendriksz and the Southport Whisky Club.

Nose: pipe tobacco, worn leather, bonfire smoke, mesquite, a pharmacy storeroom.
Palate: mandarin jelly and lapsang souchong. Very oily.
Finish: mustard crusted beef with horesradish sauce

    With water

Nose: candy corn, caramel corn- the type with nuts, it's very perfumed. Arrowroot and builder's rubble.
Palate: sugar syrup and black pepper.
Finish: rock candy, ANZAC biscuits and tapioca.

Excellent, I wonder if one of the sherry casks previously held some Laphroaig.
