There is now the anniversary bottling and brings 32 years with a (measured by the key data and by today's standards) reasonable price.

The whisky is homogeneous in itself, but considering the age I miss a change of impressions or at least a special intensity, especially in the nose. The palate and finish are unspectacular, there is a lack of complexity and volume.
    • Nose
      89 89
Immediately after pouring, the nose promises light fruity aromas. Especially lime with orange peel. With a little time in the glass, apricots, honey mead and, quite distantly, elderflower come through. The nose remains slightly sour at first.

After about 20 minutes in the glass, the aromas appear a little more balanced and settled. There are also oak and leather aromas. The fruit bouquet remains light.
    • Taste
      88 88
The palate is rather subtle. The orange peel rolls over the tongue together with herbs and a light wood bitterness. With a little benevolence, slight hints of cinnamon and grapefruit can still be guessed.

The palate doesn't do anything wrong, but for higher points I lack volume and complexity.
    • Finish
      87 87
The finish does not bring anything new and is more likely to be described as medium-long.

Beautifully overripe fruit basket on the nose. Great. In the mouth and finish, however, it quickly becomes a bit bitter and it loses a lot.

I really like these long-aged whiskys from the refill cask. Also this one. Not very intrusive despite its age, a gentleman's whisky. As expected, the aromas need a lot of time in the glass to unfold.

The price is "reasonable" by today's standards, but I can still remember the times when the bottles of this series were also available for €100 less and, in my opinion, tasted even better. Luckily I still have some of them :)

Honey, cooked yellow fruits, tropical notes, these bourbon glenfarclas can be really fruity, very good

I really don't know what to think of it. Somehow fine, but the bread / pastry wrap is too heavy and too 1-dimensional for me. Easy sipping but then much too expensive ...

    Spicy, fruity - pretty drinkable

Honey, ripe fruits, peach, dried apricot, little pineapple, jam, fruit cake, hints of cooked oranges
    • Taste
      87 87
Little punchy, fruity, hints of honey, subtle sweetness, more ripe and cooked fruits, peach, apricot, jam, little citrusy, spices, hints of oak wood
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium long, more punchy, spicy, little zesty, little more woody, herbal, grapefruit, lime zest

Well balanced on the tongue, no sherry board
In the nose it is too arbitrary for me and in the finish it is tasty but a little short

light color, great scent, light fruits, intense, scent quickly fades, mirabelle plum is easy to guess, some cardboard. Taste: not harmonious, alcohol poorly integrated, far too little taste, vanilla, honey, fruit, very light, astringent, hardly any sweetness, very slight development on the palate, light oak spice. All in all a poor bottling, considering the actually high age and the price. Fortunately, I only had one sample. Glenfarclas is doing itself a disservice by bringing such weak bottlings onto the market. Nobody needs such whiskys, what a shame.

The nose looks extremely thin and fragile, applesauce and pears dominate the nose and the taste. The sharp base note is unpleasant and is sometimes annoying. I am torn, on the one hand I like the monotonous fruit or apple note, on the other hand the sharp pepper note disturbs. For the first moment today I am giving a benevolent 88 points (downward trend ...).

    • Nose
Orange-colored amber shimmers in the glass, a thick and oily streak sticks to the glass wall of my Premium Snifter, from which long and tough "legs" loosen. Dried apricots and peaches rise, sweet toffee and milk chocolate come into their own, raisins fall into ground hazelnuts, green apples and slightly tart citrus fruit appear minimally. Little by little, applesauce and sweet Williams pears dominate, the nose looks extremely thin and fragile, after a short time I actually only smell grated apples and minimal abrasion of old grapefruit ...
    • Taste
The first sip wets the tongue thinly, the dried fruit explodes into a peppery sharpness, resin and tannins stimulate the flow of saliva, ground hazelnut kernels stick creamy on the tongue, old applesauce and zest from orange peel end tart with zest of old grapefruit and tart resinous Wood on the palate. A pinch of pepper sticks to the tip of the tongue, the spiciness is ultimately distributed throughout the mouth and lines it with cozy warmth. The flow of saliva is almost unchecked ...
    • Finish
Dark wood tones and tart citrus fruits stick to the palate for a long time, the tip of the tongue still glows thanks to the sharp pepper note, hazelnuts swim creamy in the stimulated saliva. A wooden smoky note is minimal, remains of dried apricots and oranges rest on the palate, a fresh mint note emerges ... The aftertaste lingers on the palate for a medium length and ends tart.

Wow, this whisky is supposed to be 32 years old? Never! This barrel should have been put in the garden market as a rain barrel 30 years ago, but should not have been refilled with Glenfarclas Spirit. Sorry, but the good flora didn't deserve that.
Freshly poured apples and pears dominate, more fresh than ripe and with a distinct acidity. After a few minutes, some cinnamon comes with a few fleeting older notes. But the apple juice stays. Hm, that stuff is expensive ...
The taste is then not so fresh, rather darker, woodier notes, maybe some weak herbs. But everything was very restrained. A little moss and mold, but quickly over.
The finish is also disappointingly short: herbs, moss, must and away ...
Yes, there is age, there is bitterness - but everything is so subdued.
If I had bought a bottle, I would be immensely disappointed with the price. So I thought briefly of Flora MacDonald. The whisky does not do justice to this strong personality. As a 12 year old for 60 euros he would pass, too bad!

  23. Totoro scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

A major disappointment. Considering the price, it's ridiculously low quality.
    • Nose
      84 84
Typical tired-cask Glenfarclas: low on sherry, high on tannic oak. Natural apple juice, caramel, bitter orange, plenty of oak spice.
    • Taste
      82 82
Peppery, tannic start, gets then increasingly bitter/sour, with a pronounced herbal inflection and tired old oak. There's an okay moment in the middle with a flash of refill sherry fruitiness and sweetness, but then the wood takes over again.
    • Finish
      82 82
In all honesty, the age doesn't show, even in the finish, which may well belong to a much younger malt. Not a lot going on here besides a pretty standard malty apple note, a bit of honey and a steadily increasing oakiness.

  24. Mapl scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

What a disappointment! Why getting older and older and thinner. A 25 for the 25th anniversary made from good barrels for the same price or a slightly more expensive price would have been more fair to the series from my point of view.
