Very powerful and intense whisky, besides the peat and (sweet) smoke also a clear sweet layer and some fruity notes. Very pleasant one.

Subtle peat, sweet smoke, quite some alcohol. Some earthy notes, ash, bonfire smoke. Also some cow stable.
    • Taste
      87 87
Powerful, pepper, sal ammoniac and licorice, but also immediately some sour fruity edge underneath. Sweet smoke. Quite drying mouthfeel, intense.
    • Finish
      86 86
Much smoother now, sweetness dominates, with some ash and sweet smoke. Later on more power, and some bitterness comes in.

I was looking forward to the Callisto X, exactly my whisky, 13 years old, barrel, cask strength, sherry and smoke.

Perhaps it could even compete with the "legendary" Callisto VII.

Unfortunately, my expectations were not met. The alcohol isn't particularly well integrated.

A fiery, peppery starch emerges that is actually known from a Highland Park. Only light smoke and hardly any sherry aromas. This won't be my Caol Ila anymore. Somewhat reminiscent of Callisto VIII. Drinkable, not bad, but not really good either.

The sharpness of the whisky takes the aromas. I would have guessed an 8 year old or younger. So one can be wrong.

The finish is not particularly long, but still the best thing about this dram. You could also think of him as a slightly smoky Highlander. Rather fruity aromas come through, apple, mirabelle plum, papaya, peach, light woody taste, which does not disturb.

I love it when a distillery sometimes offers an "atypical" whisky and you can't immediately taste what you have in the glass. But here the experiment didn't work that well.
