I had this Glenallachie in an advent calendar in a 2cl sample.
It comes across as very sweet and fruity. Dark chocolate, to be tasted in the abang for a long time.

It is a very good sherryed whisky! I think it was fresh sherryed Casks.
    • Nose
Smell of oily seeds with pistachios. Fresh, citrus and other fruity.
    • Taste
With dry and fresh red berries. Slightly oily and waxy.
    • Finish
It finish is pleasantly silky and sweet, but not too long.

Possibly a duff bottle, but it was a frustrating one as it kept nearly delivering… But not quite. Failed to match the sample I initially had from MoM which was what prompted me to buy it.

Prune, fig, juicy blackberry, baker's chocolate, black raspberries, ribena, broken brambles and canes that the berries have been growing on, Christmas pudding, espresso, a touch of burnt caramelized sugar or burnt raisins, as it opens some leather and more raisins and now some walnuts. A bit of leather polish. There is some char there too. With water: a puff of oak which subsides. The fruit skews more towards cranberries now, gets a slight hint of leafiness, then deep notes of leather, licorice, cacao and some boxwood floating at the top of the nose!
    • Taste

A touch of gun powder at the first sip, soaked raisins. This is a sweet, hot, syrupy sherry bomb with red fruits, cordials, jams. Espresso and cacao, strong drip coffees and real worn leather belts. A touch of licorice, a touch of mint. With water cherries become more prominent
    • Finish
      85 85
a bit of rock dust, leather, challah bread, some dried cherries, oily and lasting, and strong coffee

The latest September 2020 release. Now this is wonderful again from Billy Walker. A PX forward dram full of decadent sweet caramel, dark chocolate and fruits. Extremely easy to drink. Compared to the new 12-year-old, I find this sweeter with more toffee, more chocolate-rich and less drying. The overall quality really makes me wonder how much older stock they put in here because this is enormous! Value (£50) : 9/10
    • Nose
I just love how rich and sweet this is. Heavy on the PX casks here on the nose. Butterscotch, caramel coated raisins, figs and dates. Dark chocolate balanced by sweet toffee and orange marmalade. Muscovado sugar. Loads of dark treacle and molasses. Some heather honey as well. Christmas cake and apricot jam. The longer I nose the more that thick, dense raisin sweetness comes through. Hazelnut praline. Slight old herbal notes. Lovely cinnamon and cocoa powder with just a light touch of ginger warmth and a lightly drying wood spice.
    • Taste
Very creamy on the palate and even sweeter now. More of that treacle toffee note comes through. Sticky raisins, sweet prunes, dried figs and apricot jam. This sweetness then develops into a dark, drying tobacco or tea leaves. Again very dark chocolate and espresso led with candied orange peels. Light ginger spices with cinnamon and nutmeg now. more sweetness with some Demerara sugar. A sprinkle of white pepper warmth.
    • Finish
Sweet initially but quickly develops into more oak-tannins here in the finish. The drying tobacco is more obvious and those baking spices now come through again. More dark chocolate covered orange peels. It feels like I've just taken a bite out of a Christmas cake. In addition, it also has quite a malty aftertaste once the tannins settle down.

A rich, full-bodied and multi-layered single malt from The GlenAllachie. The sherry casks gave this malt delicate chocolate notes and warming spices that harmonise perfectly with the dark fruit and juicy oranges. A dram bottled at perfect drinking strength that will make the heart of any sherry aficionado beat faster, and that of lovers of good single malts as well.

    • Nose
Rich and sweet on the nose with many dark fruits, rum sultanas and blood oranges. A touch of floral notes as well as spicy and Christmassy aromas of cinnamon, star anise and nutmeg. Dark chocolate and cocoa are added with slightly bitter notes of orange peel in the background.
    • Taste
Sweet and creamy on the palate with brown sugar, sherry and caramel. This is accompanied by warming spicy notes of cinnamon and nutmeg, followed by cocoa and chocolate covered orange slices. Some spicy oak and subtly toasted bread linger towards the finish.
    • Finish
The finish is long lasting and pleasantly warming with creamy, orange-fruity and chocolaty notes. Becomes drier with time with cocoa, nutmeg, orange zest and a touch of tobacco leaves.

With water: After adding a few drops of water more orange fruit on the nose with milk chocolate and brown sugar, accompanied by slightly bitter orange zest. Still sweet and creamy on the palate with orange jam, cinnamon and oak spice. It is slightly warming with notes of milk chocolate and a little nutmeg. The finish is of medium length, initially creamy with orange jam and milk chocolate. Becomes increasingly dry with notes of oak, cocoa and espresso.
