What a great feeling to have and taste this Mortlach. Strongly fruity, with the domination of apples and juicy pears, as well as a delicate hint of peach, make you want to sip on endlessly. Very intense both in taste and finish, a little more delicate in aroma.
    Really worth a try.

What a lovely summer whisky! light, lots of freshness and very drinkable. This is certainly not a simple whisky but above all 'simple complex' and of high quality. Great choice of barrels this has matured in. I have the feeling that the makers had exactly this result in mind when choosing the barrels. It gives this whisky a very unique character. You don't come across them like this very often! This whisky is beautifully balanced. The savoryness of the distillate combined with fresh flavors that are supported by a nice layer of spiciness and balanced by slightly sweet notes. This is great for a warm summer evening. Despite the light/fresh character, water does this whisky very well and is necessary to bring the sometimes somewhat shy flavors to the foreground. One or two teaspoons is sufficient.

The nose is full of simple complexity. That sounds crazy but I'll try to explain. It takes some time and several attempts to distinguish the components. It starts with a sweet grain. I also smell lemon, vanilla and some glue. a little later: Ah! I couldn't place this one directly but it's obvious when you've found it: cooked ham! Clearly the savory thing Mortlach is known for. All scents have become a very beautiful whole, this is correct!

This whisky is also simply complex in taste. the flavors are clearly present and very 'deepened'.

I get flavors like lemon juice, vanilla and light honey. There is also a very surprising taste that makes this whisky a real experience, liquorice! That taste combined with the freshness of lemon and the savory character are forged into this beautiful whole and this complex simplicity.

The build is of a fresh sour lemon which is very refreshing. quite quickly the licorice joins in with a slight sweetness from the honey. after a while, the sweetness of the honey also comes to the fore, so that the balance keeps changing a little bit and keeps you busy.
    • Finish
      90 90
the finish is medium/long and again very refreshing because of the delicious sour lemon and is reminiscent of the inside of the Napoleon lemon candies. this is such a pungent sour that you feel in your jaw, delicious! a nice sweetness keeps the whole in balance, after which the liquorice rears its head again and turns into bitter lemon peel, especially the white of the peel.

Fresh, berry-honey aroma. Smooth, but without much zest.

Simple and drinkable sweet scotch with more creamy profile
    • Nose
Creamy sweet cotton candy with light white fruits (peach?)
    • Taste
Creamy candy and slightly citric lemon
    • Finish
      Short, some white fruits

Simple but nice whisky. Lightweight, open, with a small number of components. On demand.
    • Nose
      84 84
Fresh, light, citrus, lemon lollipops, malt, light soap, deep background meaty note.
    • Taste
      83 83
Continues the aroma, lemon lollipops, frankly candy, ginger, a little watery.
    • Finish
      83 83
Lemon, candy, with ginger pinch, closer to average.

One of my favourite whiskies of 2020. Lovely green apples and pears. Both sweet and savoury on the palate with some nice earthy notes. The apple lingers on the palate long after the whisky has gone. Makes me want to explore Mortlach further as this is wonderful
