    • Nose
      Honey, grain, slightly dusty, slightly caramel, sweet pastries, very light vanilla, a touch of coconut, grass, some wood, fruit I don't really find it. something in the background could be very diffuse, but that is too weak to really grasp it.
    • Taste
      OK, very different from what I expected. Dried herbs, herb candy, honey, a little dried apricot, really spicy, spices with lots of pepper, becomes slightly bitter at the back and a lot of wood comes through

    COLOR: straw (very light for 19 years, but without
    Dye!) ;-)

    - a wonderful, very harmonious, aromatic single
    Paint,
    - € 100 may be a bit much, but a very good one
    drops
    • Nose
      Sweetness, honey, vanilla, toffee, shortbread, herbs
    • Taste
      very strong but also very aromatic start, vanilla, toffee, apples, spice, wood notes
    • Finish
      medium-long, powerful finish;
      medium-long dry, slightly bitter aftertaste

    simply wonderful - a great, long-matured and wonderfully harmonious BENRINNES - the great distillery character comes into its own here - fantastic!
    [Color] = pale, light straw!
    • Nose
      87 87
      it takes a little time - soft, fruity, slightly tart apples, lemons, various herbs, vanilla / vanilla cake;
    • Taste
      88 88
      more intense, oily, fruity (green apples, limes, lemons) start; Sweetness, chocolate, spice (peppery, little wood);
    • Finish
      88 88
      the finish is quite long and sour; wonderful pepper aromas remain in the aftertaste;

    Good natural Benrinnes at an interesting age, where it has neither lost its youthful edge nor completely gained that special waxy polish on the nose that can make it so intriguing if it's over 20 (and drawn from good casks). It's just the finish that seems a bit unbalanced to me.

      Ah, there's the distillery's typically sour mixed-pickles vibe, this time alongside a yeasty, fermentary aspect that makes it appear a bit younger than it actually is and leads me to suspect that this particular bourbon barrel wasn't necessarily the most active one. But that's no issue with a good distillate like Benrinnes...
      Naturally cloudy apple juice, freshly cut herbs like parsley and dill, caramel custard, vanilla pods and a soft waxiness.
    • Taste
      87 87
      Very oily mouthfeel, powerful attack on the mid-palate. Big and fat and creamy, with a nice balance between fruity acidity and barley sugars. Honeyed cereal, lime juice, and an interestingly tart, slightly medicinal minerality towards the death (quinine / crushed aspirin tablets).
    • Finish
      84 84
      Tart herbs and veggies (chives and chicory, perhaps), still with a mouth-coating oiliness and some honey. The wood barely figures here. I find it a bit "hollow" and unbalanced in the finish, with some alcohol pushing through the restrained maturation.

  5. Lukas_Kiene scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

    The malt is still very restrained in terms of aroma on the palate with intensely spicy and sweet citrus and dry herbal notes.

    A great development, a down-to-earth and honest whisky.
    • Nose
      86 86
      Very delicate and restrained light fruit notes. Likewise, a slight subliminal flavor that is reminiscent of slightly damp, light wood. Slightly floral.

      After the glass has been left to stand for almost 30 minutes, the aromas appear a little more intense and result in a more harmonious overall picture. In addition, there are fresh and sweet citrus notes, which go in the direction of a slightly tart lemon-herb lemonade. Also some caramel and dry vanilla notes.
    • Taste
      88 88
      Nice, delicate, spicy notes, with herbal stock and sweet, tangy limes. I like that! The beautiful mix of light, spicy wood notes, clear citrus fruits and sweet cereal-like or herb-like notes is really great.
    • Finish
      87 87
      At first there is another surge of the aromas mentioned in the taste, then the whole thing turns into pleasantly spicy-tart wood notes. The finish is really very long, the tart, woody aromas stick to the palate for a long time.
