last batch with more PX, and less oloroso! released 12 days before WL 2019:
a spicy nose, quite young, then wood, a little musty, macerated fruit.
The mouth brings bourbon vanilla very strong, tenacious and pleasant, well marked spices, dry wood then wet, it smells strong!
the fruits are rather on grapes, mandarins, peaches cooked and macerated, amalgamated.
packets of nuts a little crushed too
the finish is a little dry at the beginning, then the woody / stewed sherry look takes up beautifully.

Compared head-on with A "buna 63 batch, also 61 degrees alc, a slightly different composition of barrels. But still two sherry barrels, in terms of aroma, Aberlor will be brighter, but drinkability, balance, definitely here!

Water opens the flavors. So always add a few splashes, diluted to around 50 to 55%. A very nice sherry bomb for around 50 euros. Including a snapper.

Sandalwood, orange, almonds, dried plums, figs and dates, dark chocolate, furniture polish, exotic spice mix, vanilla, brown sugar, rum raisins.

Creamy starter even with water. First pepper and ginger, young sandalwood and dried fruits, raisins, almonds, sherry.

Long. If something gets dry, the sherry wood comes through fully. Cocoa powder and dark chocolate.

On the nose it reminds me more of Glenallachie than Glendronach: very creamy, grape-like, with marzipan and vanilla. With some juicy orange and peach. Now and then something darker like cocoa. The alcohol is noticeable but well integrated.

In the mouth intensely spicy, fruity and nutty, the alcohol contributes to the intensity without being annoying.

In the finish, spicy and fruity with chocolate and dried fruits. Sweet and sour and relatively juicy. Finally, light oak is added.
    Length: 6/10

Great, intense sherry malt, reminiscent of a mixture of 12 and 15 on steroids. Unfortunately, it lacks the dark aromas of the 18-year-old brother.

    Note 1-

1585) The GlenDronach, Cask Strength, Batch 8, Bottled 2019
    • Nose
N- Bottled at astonishing 61% abv, get ready to burn a hole in the stomach. Yes, you can smell the aroma from an arm away. Thick sherry nuance with fig, with lighter notes of ripened juicy red cherry plum, velvet with subtle sweetness, developed to gentle waves of dried fruits, nutmeg and minerals. Water- Not so friendly with it, as it drawn out the rubber and pepper notes. (87/21)
    • Taste
P- Abundance of rich sweet figs, dates and white coffee. Mouth-full of wood phenol comes along, subsides to dried ginger and mustard before the herb-y sherry grow on you overtimes with minted After-Eight. Water- Oilier with exotic spices. (87/21)
    • Finish
F- Medium long, milky smooth with whiffs of nuttiness, chewy and dry with good length, but not the width. Water- herbs, caramel and dried leafs. (87/21)

    March 2021
Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 7 57,9% VS
    Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 8 61% 10y

although i havent tried a lot of glendronachs yet, i am a big fan of the distillery. i bought a bottle of the batch 8 and a super secret guy named Mr Fox borrowed me a sample of batch 7 to compare both.

indeed, they are very different. batch 7 seems a bit more edgy and less sherried. the nose is much more musty and creme brúlee sweet, whereas batch 8 is more on the marmeladey sherry side with also some more nutty flavors coming through.

hard to say which is better. they are both good but not outstanding. for something aroung 65€ both are good bang for buck. give it a try. i am happy to own a bottle of the batch 8 :)

very different to batch 7, much more fruit on the nose. walnuts and hazelnuts. strawberry jam with pepper. very marmeladey. cinnamon and dried apricot. sweet barley with forest honey. the 61% are well integrated, especially this being the neck pour. love it. after time some floral notes come thtough. high complexity.
    • Taste
      87 87
moncheri and more cherries. very consistent with the nose. the saliva production increases massively. maybe not the most complex glendronach but this is moaning on a very high level. with water the creaminess increases. milk chocolate.
    • Finish
      87 87
middle long finish with some ginger and sherry sirup.
