Very quickly loses its aroma in the nose. With a little water it becomes even softer and sweeter and also loses its flavor.
Otherwise similar to the 10 year old.
    • Nose
      70 70
      Smells like eagle owl first.
Sweet, in contrast to the 10, it smells of almost nothing very quickly.
    • Taste
      80 80
velvety, soft, very sweet, then spicy and tingling.
      Very light oak.
    • Finish
      80 80
      medium length, dry and spicy

Light golden colour. Quite an oily structure.
    • Nose
      84 84
Fresh fruit. Orchard fruit, but not green. Yellow apples. Peaches. A pinch of spices. Cinnamon. Apple pits. Lots of honey. Vanilla. Caramel. Sweet cream. A pleasant combination of fruit with sweet vanilla-caramel notes. Red apples and peaches in sweet syrup. On the second nose, it became even sweeter and gentler. Definitely vanilla-cream aromas. Then there's the sweet oatmeal. Later, the fruits come back in an even fresher version - red, but hard and even slightly sour apples. Maybe even some citrus.
    • Taste
      82 82
Fruit. Apples and peaches. Spices. Spiciness. Black pepper and cinnamon. A lot of sweets. Honey. Caramel, vanilla. Apricots. Fruit in a sweet brine, almost syrup. There are also some bitter flavors. Barrel. Cocoa. There is some oiliness in the mouth.
    • Finish
      82 82
Lots of red apples. Light warm up. Spices. Cinnamon. White pepper. Sweetness. Honey and caramel. Fruit in a sweet brine. Then comes some oak bitterness. Cocoa. Maybe some dark chocolate, but one with 70-80% cocoa content. Quite a long finish.

Fruity (apple), sweetness, sherry, vanilla, light spice. Both in the nose and on the palate. Good 12 with at least 43%. Uncolored and presumably filtered. Pretty ok.

Sweet and fruity for sure. At first the sweet notes come through like vanilla, honey and toffees. Fruity notes follow like caramelized apples, lemon and oranges. At the end more dark notes like chocolate, ginger and cinnamon.
    • Taste

Vanilla and toffees are the first touches on my tongue. Followed by lemon, oranges and red apples. At the end licorice, ginger and cinnamon.

Medium-long. With sweet and fruity notes like vanilla, apples and lemon.

This is pretty good for the money, enough going on to get you interested, I may get a bottle, decent value at £35-£40, this is much better than the Macallan 12 year double cask and much cheaper.
Fades a bit quick but still ok at the price

I find the aroma of this malt quite successful, although I'm not a fan of the soapy/waxy one. Unfortunately, I find it a bit spicy for not having a huge volume. Otherwise I think the mixture of fruit/floral and the bourbon barrel flavors is successful.
    • Nose
Fresh and fruity. Citrus aromas and banana stand out. I also find it a bit soapy.
    • Taste
Rather hot, banana, vanilla, some coconut, floral notes with an overall rather light body. I didn't really find the shery influence, the beautiful vanilla and coconut aromas suggest decent bourbon barrels, I like it.
    • Finish
Floral notes and banana not too long.

Simple, not to complex, for a 12 year old with low percentage - not entirely bad, though the finish is rather bitter/ unpleasant.

    S 8
A delicately fruity highlander with a handful of spice and Sherry seasoning. Ethanol slightly masking other flavours is the only thing I can pick on with.

    N 24
Sherry nose that’s rather refreshing (light winery fruit, sultana). Honey comb. Some fresh oak and malt. More toffee fruit and ethanol developing over time. Warm orange citrusy hiding underneaths.

    P 24
Handful of winter spices (clove, nutmeg). Then touch of spicy oak and menthol burn arises. Fresh, juicy stone fruit underpinned the whole time, getting more malty over time.

    F 23
Mid, dry finish. Toasted oak. Touch of digestive biscuit.

Quite a complex aroma and a very interesting taste.
    N:20 T:21 F:22 B: 21
    • Nose
Malty, sweet and juicy, like a little smoky, fruity, a little sulphurous, citruses, minerality, withered grass
    • Taste
Sulphurous, oily, fruity, citrusy, also malty, menthol, mineral, somewhat reminiscent of the previous release of Strathisla 12 (the one in the dark green bottle), quite dense and astringent with dried fruits and oak tannins. Ginger sting. As if the smoky aroma on the palate has become canned fish in oil.
There is a little water, but it is very appropriate.
    • Finish
Menthol, not bitter at all, but tannic at the same time, ginger

    • Nose
On the nose there is a basket full of green apples, toffee candys, vanilla, nuts and spices.
    • Taste
The palate is very nice also, quite fruity, again with apples but also with some dates notes, a bit of chocolate and soft spices. It is really lovely.
    • Finish
The finish is medium long, sweet and some oak and sherry notes.

Fairly young nose, not very sherry, unlike the other Glengoynes. We are more on cereals, grass, it is very reminiscent of must, and fresh barley that goes through the stills. Very "authentic" therefore, but not particularly rounded and mellowed by the barrel.
    • Taste
      81 81
The palate is hardly better, rather marked by cereals, herbs, perhaps a trace of dried fruits and some yellow fruits.
    • Finish
      80 80
Medium finish, quite grassy and with hints of must.

Much more mature and darker flavors come in than in the 10-year-old.
For many people, sherry can be a lot with this drink.
It’s a big favorite to me from the new series.

A fine example of a upper low range whisky, flavours are their for you and it's not overwhelming at all.

  24. SimondeVette scored this whisky 70 points Expert Senior

A weak version of the Glengoyne 15. I've got the idea that the barrels used are not as good as the Glengoyne 15's.
    • Nose
      Grass, green apples
    • Taste
Grain, vanilla, a little bit of roasted hazelnut, milk chocolate
    • Finish
Bitter wood, a bit of caramel

    • Nose
Sultana biscuits, oil, softly distant lavender, coffee, sherry, honey and dried fruit.
    • Taste
The whisky actually opens surprisingly soft. Clear sultana, vanilla, honey, nesquick, a little pepper and nougat.
    • Finish
      Bitter, dry, spicy, medium long.

  28. Whiskylifestyle scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

A lovely daily dram and quite affordable too.
    • Nose
A hint of dried fruits, sultana and figs. Lemons in the back. Plenty of honey and a lovely apple pie. Oranges. A little bit of toasted oak. Sweet cherries. Nougat. Later also pink grapefruit.
    • Taste
Very Orangina like (a kind of lemonade) at first. :-) Vanilla and caramel. Milk chocolate and a hint of some lovely warming spices, mostly going towards black pepper and nutmeg. Nougat here too.
    • Finish
Mid-long and Orangina again. A hint of sweet grapefruit and caramel.
