This is a very interesting Glenrothes - yes it is Glenrothes - to taste. It's got a lot of rhubarb and other attractive fruity sweet-sourness in it, which you don't come across much in modern whisky. Probably not to everyone's liking, but I think it's very nice (It might help that I like rhubarb...). Kudos to the lads of Whiskybase Shop who have the guts to bottle these whiskies with an unusual profile.
    • Nose
The nose starts with lots of rhubarb, gooseberries, and cooked apples. Followed hints of nettle and eucalyptus. Also peel zest, flowering currants, and geraniums. Something of tinned pineapple. Nail polish and a touch of balsamic vinegar in the background. Very unusual but attractive in my view.
    • Taste
Lots of rhubarb again intermingled with Granny Smit apples and sultanas. Pear eau-de-vie. Citric notes of lemon and lime. Fresh kiwi-fruit. Blood oranges developing into juicy pink grapefruit bitterness. Bog-myrtle. Later on whiff of sugared almonds and aniseed. It's an odd palate, but fun to taste!
    • Finish
Medium long. White pepper, apple-mint, and a little ginger. Greengages. Pine at the end. In my view this is not a wacky whisky with off-notes, this is just a whisky with lots of sweet-sour fruitiness in it.
