    I found this quirkier than most people
    • Nose
      90 90
      Nose: engine oil and rum raisin cake, oiled leather - saddles and boots and chainsaw gloves. Some gasoline. Hungarian dessert wines- Tokaji? With water more figgy and some maybe slightly strange aromas - some Chinese herbs, astragalus maybe? Some dong quai? And real licorice root glycerrhiza.
    • Taste

      Palate: high octane juice! Thick thick mouth, high alcohol - you feel the almost 59%. Rum raisins, espresso and moka, some chocolate covered dried cherries, bitter 100% cacao. Some of the same herbal flavors after water as the nose, plus some rock dust.

      Finish: Maple sugar, and tobacco and those worn oiled leathers.

    This Highland Park 16yo TWE, on the one hand is a bit like the badass A'Bunadh of Highland Park with its very sherry and cask-raw side… But on the other, even if the latest versions of A'Bunadh have lost a lot in quality (and in interest), we are in a completely different price range. If we compare the two in terms of the age / quality / price ratio, obviously. Because, ultimately, at HP they remain logical with the price of assemblies of this age and of equal (or lower) quality. Afterwards, other single casks (admittedly younger) have good looks too, a little less certainly but for half the price ... But this one has a body and a character a little more up to the asking price than not bad of assemblies giving in the fan-service.
    • Nose
      It rocks heavy and we will let it breathe ... Then I think we will add a little water, rather quickly. Very marked by sherry, as its color suggested. So nice and frank notes of leather and tobacco, chocolate also emerging with the addition of water ... A rather light peat, a little too light even (which evaporates with the addition of water). Notes of red / black fruits (such as blackberries), or dates / dried figs are unfortunately very little present (almost non-existent). This despite my expectations in the matter. Strong, interesting but also a little disappointing.
    • Taste
      Ha yeah, anyway, cocky like mom (mom won't mind, don't worry). A slightly “badass” whisky, very dark, on chocolate (dark and intense), liquorice, soya, tobacco… With the addition of water, notes of nuts emerge, just like figs finally appear. a little more smell with a touch of caramel. Going from cask brut to whisky diluted with a little water is very pleasant I find. I like both but it feels good to switch from one to the other, half-glass like. Take it all in, then we'll give you some ointment. Ya know watta mean?
    • Finish
      Long, on chocolate and tobacco. A fairly strong dryness in the mouth (passing better with the addition of water).

    Wow. Was expecting this. Unbelievable sherry bomb. We need more single casks like this from HP. Only wish I had another bottle

    Not my review, but have 2 bottles at home waiting to be tucked into: TWE have finally released tasting notes
    • Nose
      Singed caramel, worn leather and malt loaf to start. Rich, dark fruity notes build, with fruitcake and bittersweet chocolate joined by blackcurrants and dried cherries. A touch of aniseed and pine spiciness develops.
    • Taste
      Intense, as the colour suggests, with brown sugar sweetness and dark and smoky barrel char tussling at first. It quickly calms, to aromatic oak, dark caramel and rich dried fruit. The fruit cake and malt loaf notes from the nose take centre stage, with cola sweetness balanced by dry spice.
    • Finish
      Caramel, toffee, spiced fruit loaf, stewed raisins, baked apples – long, lingering, spicy and rich.

    I'm sure many people will looooooooove this. Man, it's been a while since I have had a bomb like this.
    • Nose
      Roasted coffee beans and dark caramel with loads of warming spices like cinnamon and cloves. There's a touch of burnt rubber, but also soy-marinated, barbecued chicken (focus on the soy). Bung cloth and chili-laced dark chocolate too. Finally a whiff of resin.
    • Taste
      Big, intense, dry and heavily sherried, yet it has preserved a bit of juicy sweetness. There's even a tinge of smoke (while I couldn't detect any on the nose). The spiciness is spot on and well-balanced with dried fruits and burnt caramel. Some tobacco leaves, maybe even a touch of mint.
    • Finish
      Lingering spices, raisins, caramel, coffee grounds. Very long.
