Whisky Reviews for BenRiach 2010 HL

- The Hepburn Benriach has a soft nose. Fruity and compote: gooseberry, rhubarb, strawberry - everything under a meringue hood. In addition, some shortcrust pastry and a touch of oak spice.
The second nose is spicier, less fruity. The fruit flavors and the shortcrust pastry combine to form a tart - without meringue.
On the palate it is alcoholic, then spicy, then grainy. There is hardly anything left of the fruit compote; a mu of smoke occupies the rear aroma cookie. If it weren't for that slight meringue sweetness, I wouldn't think this dram was the same as the one I was holding under my nose.
Aftertaste: medium length, some sweetness, grain and oak.
Second sip: At first some fruit, but then immediately intense oak spice, paired with a little sweet smoke.
Second aftertaste: decongestant following the second palate impression.
Tip: Hold your trunk in the glass while drinking, tasting and relishing. Then there will be something with the fruit compote.
- Classic sherry whisky with comparatively light sherry notes at an affordable price
Prunes, raisins and figs, preserved fruits
Wonderful nutty and buttery flavors, hazelnut, like a crumble with steamed / boiled down fruits
Chocolate finish with clotted cream, becoming a bit bitter but still okay
