A single malt of no discernable age and bottled at a low percentage, yet it is rich and has a satisfying complexity too.
    • Nose
Light orchard fruits, Werther's Original and figs with a touch of honey, vanilla frosting and cardamom. All very subtle yet rich and comforting with just a hint of rose petal and fennel.
    • Taste
A mix of dark red fruits and gentle wood spices, it's very drinkable yet never boring. Sweet caramel, creme brûlée and soft notes of cinnamon and black pepper.
    • Finish
A whisper of menthol, lingering spices, a candied element and a pleasant dryness. Really good.

Starward Solera 43% Single Malt Whisky.

    30ml sample, July 2022.

    Golden yellow, mid tone, attractive.

Aroma is quite big, guava is maybe the main vibe, fruit n barley, green stardust sweets, mostly concentrated fruit with husky barley, something a little like coffee breath lingers in the background. Good on the whole.

Body is oily, rounded in the mouth.

Taste is soft orchard fruits, pear in particular, russet apple, becoming bitter towards the finish - quite charred and peppery. The fruitiness is less intense than the aroma; the flavour has a surprisingly strong bitter char. A mixed bag. 3.5/84

Apera is an Australian wine made very similar to Sherry. If there has to be a comparison, then for example with sherry-ripened Scots.

Very fruit driven with some sweet vanilla tones. Promising but not quite there yet in my opinion. I feel like the apera casks could contribute even some more flavour to the whisky. Nevertheless a very pleasant dram!
