nose - gingerbread, seaweed, maple syrup, somewhat fruit pie
silky, right amout of sweetness, an easy drift with nice curve.
fairly long finish, creamy yet mineral

Great, linear dram that combines nose & taste perfectly with lovely chalky, mineral, salty and sweet notes with a touch of barbecued pineapple.

Far too expensive for the price ... not really outstanding

A surprisingly active "green" bourbon barrel that miraculously fused with the DNA of the Springbank Distillery.
    • Nose
Intense and full-bodied. Title: Green fruit lemonade mixed with mineral elements.
A blend between lime, crushed lemongrass, green banana peel, green grass or even cactus juice with salted stones, lime or pencil graphite. Someone also left a mint leaf and a vanilla pod in a dusty cellar. A juicy, vibrant aroma that works strongly in the glass. I really enjoy it.
    • Taste
creamy and sweet, which turns into a dry taste. Lemonade, creamy oak, ginger, lime juice, salt and green grass. Dark chocolate and tobacco and traces of something cornerstone. Spicy thing!
    • Finish
the finish is opened by a cloud of smoke, tobacco, spices (nutmeg), closure with light tannins. Warming and powerful.

    • Nose
Fruits - pineapple, pear drops, banana, stone fruits and citrus zest. Hints of salt. Dunnage notes in background. Sweet notes grow stronger over time - tropical fruit bubblegum.
Empty glass smells like a warehouse with fruits and honey. Also some winter root vegetables.
    • Taste
Honey, peach, pear drops. Very rounded and smooth. Wrigley's juicy fruit chewing gum. Light salinity in background.
    • Finish
Long. Fruits joined by a pleasant sooty, dirtiness.

WOW! When you've tried enough Springbank, you know instantly from the nose this is something special.

This was a vatting of a 27yr cask & 26yr cask, as mentioned in the Springbank virtual tasting video.

Sampled in the 1928 blenders glass.

There is a lot to mention here and I could just spend all day long with this dram; safe to say, "complex!"

Sensational, absolutely sensational dram! I spent more than 1.5 hours with this dram as time is needed, at least 30mins, but the longer you hold off, the bigger the reward.

I don't understand some of the scores on this bottle. Always the same people complain about secondary pricing. Get over it! It's here to stay, you missed out on the bottle, there will be others. Don't bash on the distillery, or spirit, because of what other people are willing to pay.
    • Nose

Instantly get hit with whiffs of salinity, something that becomes more elegant with aged Springbank; for me, this brings out wet celeriac, slightly rotting vegetables.
I should be careful the way I express rotting vegetables, as this may instantly turn peoples heads away, but I can't explain it, the nose will just have you keep reaching for the glass. Once we start to delve deeper, Asprin (otherwise known as chalk), limestones, gravel dust and leftover oyster shells with traces of lemon juice.
Well done Springbank! Super complex bourbon cask maturation and I've said this to quite a few people, sherry ruled the vintage era for Springbank, but these 90s bourbon cask Springbank's are just hitting the sweet spot. The next 20 years, a dash of OBE and these are the bottles people will be talking legends of.
Tropical fruits, typically what you would find in aged bourbon casks, underripe pineapple, just tipping on the verge of ripeness, sugar cane, kiwis and nectarine, grapefruits and more, so much more.
    • Taste
      93 93
Sea salt and that salinity immediately spring to the front, that beautiful coastal air taste. Mid-palate, we start to entertain sweetness, but not overly sweet, tangerine and under-ripe pineapples with hints of sugar syrup.
    • Finish
      93 93
The oak starts to show on the tail end but doesn't in any way drown out the palate. Then the finish is medium and what appears may be an oaky finish re-adjusts itself and lands a lovely saline-fruity smoothness.

Nose: Starts off with olive oil soaked wool and powdered sugar. Then reveals engine oil, hazelnuts and fruits. Mainly peaches, maybe peach syrup. Splendid and somewhat youthfull (in a good way) despite its age.

Taste: Big and oily in the mouth. Sitrus fruits comes to the front lemon sherbet and clementines, backed by solid sweet barley notes and that Springbank funk.

Aftertaste: Long and slightly tannic with fruityness and sawdust. And lingering olive oil that just never resigns.

Overall: A fresh and balanced dram where the wood doesn’t put the distillate to shame. Feels like a more mature version of the standard 10 yo. And that makes it perfect.

Too bad I only had a sample and not a bottle.

Oh wow, fantastic nose, great complexity, very smooth and long in the mouth, was the standout whisky of the virtual open day Tasting sets, at least of the three I had (Springbank, kilkerran and cadenhead)... Touches 93. Crazy price, especially in the second hand market, very good stuff, but certainly wouldn't pay >800€ for it.

Well. I guess it's a winner. Great balance between minerality and fruits. Simply lovely.
It doesn't come cheap though but neither do the single casks which are released recently.
    • Nose
Gentle. Chalk, aspirin, gooseberries, pineapples and other tropical notes, lemons, beeswax, a veil of smoke, a pinch of salt. Fresh and lovely.
    • Taste
Chalky again, honeyed, fruity and slightly tart (bananas or peaches candies from Haribo), lemon sourness and a touch of spices (ginger, pepper).
With water, more honey and floral notes on the nose and palate, mentholated notes.
    • Finish
Long, mineral, lingering fruitiness, mint, pepper.

    Amazing whisky

    • Nose
Really nice. Quite fruity, with a trace of peat. Pineapple and kiwi. A hint of green grape peels and a bit of lemon on the background. A salty note. Vanilla and chalk, followed by that typical farmyard smell. Water brings out anise and grapefruit.
    • Taste
Pears and lemon ice cream. Honey and caramel. A touch of oak. Somewhat spicy, with a hint of black pepper, ginger and nutmeg. Adding water doesn’t change much, but it does go more towards honey.
    • Finish
Long and a bit dry with honey, a hint of lemons, caramel and a little peat. Somewhat oaky and nutmeg.

Very good Springbank, but I have the feeling that a lot of younger IBs that have been released in recent years have more potential.
    • Nose
      90 90
Very nice shiny and chiseled nose.
We start with a little dirt. Greasy peat, dust, old warehouse and motor oil.
A big dose of spray. Minerality, on chalk, limestone.
Lemon candy, zest. With aeration a little chemical candy: Haribo banana. Ouch, we lose a point.
It's fresh, with a bouquet of fresh mint. Slight solvent bordering on medicinal.
    • Taste
      91 91
In the mouth it is very well integrated.
We start with the lemon candy, quite classic from Springbank Bourbon. We also have a little kiwi, yuzu, orange zest.
The peat is light and delicate. It's mineral, on rainwater, chalk, limestone.
Always this dust, this old book, this old warehouse.
      It looks nice.
    • Finish
      88 88
Finale a little short, almost effervescent.
Mainly on peat, lemon, dust, encaustic. Fresh mint freshness. Pepper.
