Good Work
This very young Glenrothes was bottled by Dràm Mòr, the relatively young company of the cheerful Kenny MacDonald and his better half Viktorija. Kenny, by the way, got the love for whisky from his childhood, because his grandfather was foreman at Dumbarton, the grain distillery that was defunct in 2002 – once the largest in Scotland. The malt was finished in a Spanish red wine barrel and bottled at cask strength.
A cartload of Werther's Echte is complemented by red fruit and some roasted nuts. Peanut butter! Strawberry jam and some wood shavings. Warm.
Good body. Immediately very sweet from the wine. Strawberries, raspberries, cherries... but at the same time also some Seville oranges, slightly bitter, with walnuts. The spiciness makes it quite warm, almost spicy.
The aftertaste is spicy and long, slightly drying.
You can taste that he is young, but it does not bother. The Spanish barrel has done a good job of adding complexity without dominating. Still to be found for about 65 EUR. Thank you, Ivan.
