    • Nose
Gentle spices like cinnamon and a whiff of cracked black peppercorns, but also a profound nuttiness; mainly roasted peanuts. There's touches of fresh raspberry and strawberry syrup as well. Finally some oak shavings.
    • Taste
Quite a dark, intense red wine influence that I quite enjoy. Maybe a touch of sulphur, but pretty much negligible in such a way that it rather adds to the complexity of the dram instead of taking away from it. Red dried fruit, orange peel and tannins with some soft spices.
    • Finish
Spicy, a tad drying and bitter oranges. Long.

    Good Work
This very young Glenrothes was bottled by Dràm Mòr, the relatively young company of the cheerful Kenny MacDonald and his better half Viktorija. Kenny, by the way, got the love for whisky from his childhood, because his grandfather was foreman at Dumbarton, the grain distillery that was defunct in 2002 – once the largest in Scotland. The malt was finished in a Spanish red wine barrel and bottled at cask strength.

A cartload of Werther's Echte is complemented by red fruit and some roasted nuts. Peanut butter! Strawberry jam and some wood shavings. Warm.

Good body. Immediately very sweet from the wine. Strawberries, raspberries, cherries... but at the same time also some Seville oranges, slightly bitter, with walnuts. The spiciness makes it quite warm, almost spicy.

The aftertaste is spicy and long, slightly drying.

You can taste that he is young, but it does not bother. The Spanish barrel has done a good job of adding complexity without dominating. Still to be found for about 65 EUR. Thank you, Ivan.

Excellent drum, with nearly perfect nose and rather strong palette. Red wine influence is rather significant. I really enjoyed it, probably because I love good red wine.

Pretty complex, Ginger, lemon and orange peel, sweet spices, some wine influence, though less than in nose

medium-long, spices, lemon peel, dark chocolate, quite dry in the end.

more accessible to its sibling, a lovely desert-y dram, but even as it is perhaps more ‘welcoming’ than the muscatel finished Glenrothes, I think the 2851 ‘wins’ by a margin as it delivers a lovely development with quite a lot of complexity.
    • Nose
similar to its sister cask, but less sharp. More rounded with a combo of (salted) caramel and red fruit (sultanas, raisins and berries), with a cereal/biscuit touch.
    • Taste
soft arrival , sweet on honeysuckle and honey, caramelized sugar, chocolate, toffee and (creamy) coffee.
    • Finish
oily, mouthcoating, long with hints of red fruits and salt.
