An intense Ledaig with a beautiful fruit sweetness balanced with a warming spiciness, all wrapped in smoke and ash/soot notes. The influence of the port wine cask for the finishing is quite restrained. All in all a strong and warming dram for a cold winter evening.

I thank Kirsch Import e.K. for the complimentary sample.

    • Nose
First smoke on the nose, followed by a malty sweetness, grilled apricots and a dash of citrus. Burnt wood with ginger spiciness, vanilla and a fresh. slightly maritime breeze. The high alcohol content is always present, but not pungent.
    • Taste
Bold attack on the palate. With over 60% alcohol, it was not to be expected otherwise. But pleasantly sweet with creamy vanilla and malted barley, accompanied by apricot jam. At the same time strongly warming with black pepper, ginger spice and a touch of oak, all wrapped in discreet peat smoke and coal ash.
    • Finish
The finish is long lasting and warming with creamy apricot jam, some vanilla, increasing more smoke, ash and dry oak.

With water: After adding some drops of water, the sweet and fruity notes are pushed into the background and smoke, ashes as well as soot take over. On the palate creamy with vanilla, apricot and burnt caramel, with a slightly warming spiciness of pepper and cloves. Only a little smoke is noticeable. The finish is slightly shorter with dry notes of ash, ginger, allspice, and smoke.

    Thanks Dieter :)
now I have to find out
whether I also have to think of W. Schobert ...;)
    • Nose
immediately smells good and snappy in the glass
tickles and pokes in the right nostril
      soft flowery cheesy odor
      sweet, caramel,
a shot of black forest cake but dull
    • Taste
Grandpa's old cigar smoke bites you
      together with his homemade
      Apricot spirit in the smoke
disinfected and fumigated in Corona times leaves a pleasant feeling in the mouth
    • Finish
      My dear

    -Blind tasting-
A strong young Islay smoker from a bourbon keg, I would guess. 58%, Port Charlotte. Anyway, if it was a heavy young Islay smoker, he would be doing very well.

After the breakup: I never considered a Ledaig. You can see. :-)

A beautiful peat smoke nose with greasy and spicy smoke that still shows a nice presence even after a long period of standing. Some spices: marjoram, rosemary, savory, lovage. With some grated fresh ginger. A hint of liquorice, here and there with a few pointed ends. Green twigs, malt.
    • Taste
      87 87
Is on the go with a lot of steam in the start. Strong smoke brand cold ashtray. Warm tar paper, lemon water, sour grapefruit. Fresh green twigs, coffee grounds, block malt. On the tongue with a certain sharpness that immediately reminds you of the ginger note. The spices from the nose. Over time, chocolate notes and caramel come along without giving up the spiciness.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium length and dry. The cold smoke is still present, lemon zest gives a little fruitiness, the spices hardly let up.

    Fantastic !! What a hammer

The nose offers a slightly dry, almost dusty impression. It smells ... gray ????????????‍♂️ But very tasty. The alcohol is definitely there but smoke dominates

The mouth warms up directly. What a bomb ???? I've rarely had saliva forming directly while the dram is still in your mouth. Dark fruits, deep red. The smoke integrates perfectly

Delicious finish that could go a bit longer. If it were still there, it would be awesome. So ... just awesome ????

intensely malty.. warm bread, fresh out of the oven.. yeast.. wet dough (ok, i think we all get where this is going)…
interestingly, for this level of abv, it doesn’t bite at all… the fat, ledaigian peat is barely noticeable..

lemon oils arising and greatly opening up the nose of this noble spirit into an image of breathing in the clean, cold air of a crisp winter morning
    • Taste
      90 90
niiice..! mineral.. chalky.. chiseled.. slightly dry, a little bitter.. again the power is there, but not hurting anybody.. oily and camphory, the liquid almost evaporates in the mouth, i prefer it neat..

water makes it more spicy and perfumey and that’s meh in my books
    • Finish
      87 87
surprisingly understated.. dry white wine and a little smoke (obviously)… but this killer doesn’t leave many traces of her wrongdoings

Peat smoke, leather, adhesive plaster, dark grapes, maritime, salty notes. Some flex dust and cowshed, light citrus notes
    • Taste
      85 85
Dry, peat, smoked bacon, nice BBQ sweetness, vanilla, fresh oak, pepper, citrus fruits
    • Finish
      82 82
The smoke and the fresh citrus sweetness stay relatively long. In addition, the oak notes stay on the tongue for a long time.

Compared these with the other 5 batches. This one has more fruit on the nose, and very intense, pickering. Besides smoke and peat also orange and sweetness. Long finish, with it's taste following the body.
    • Nose
Peatsmoke, but also a lot of fruit immediately, grapes. Then grassy as well, hay. Some smoke, cowstable, licorice. Although some alcohol, it is not stinging.
    • Taste
Sal ammoniac, licorice, pretty strong, pepper, intense. Now some orange as well, besides ash and peatsmoke. Thick, honey. Sparkling mouthfeel.
    • Finish
Now more smooth, still a lot of ash, peatsmoke and orange. Wood. A little bitter note underneath, long finish. Now sweet as well, honey.

Intense powerful Ledaig, exciting and complex nose. Unfortunately, taste and nose do not keep up and are rather bitter.
    • Nose
      86 86
Sweet, malty smoke. Mild BBQ. Lots of salty caramel. Complex nose that alternates nicely between smoke, sweetness and maritime freshness.

The high alcohol content cools the nose a little, but is neither biting nor unpleasant.

After the first sip, a bit ashier and fruity aromas that remind me of strawberries and currants.
    • Taste
      84 84
Powerful and at the same time creamy start on the tongue. Good portion of pepper. Lots of smoke on the palate. Less fresh and sweet than the nose. Rather spicy and even a little bit tart. Reminds of ginger, but without the acid. A little malt comes through, but also a lot of oak.
    • Finish
      82 82
Long, warm. Comfortably dry. The smoke is in the throat.
