Nose : Pleasant but musty sherry, light smoke (with some water)
Flavor : Sherry bomb with well integrated alcohol
    Finish: long, sherry, oak

A premiere: a weak single cask from Redbreast.
Not an absolute total loss, but here you can already miss a lot that you are used to from Redbreast in this age group.
In short: far too few fruit notes, far too much wood and tart notes.

Quite closed off at first and not very generous in terms of the presentation of aromas. Solvents, freshly applied furniture polish - I think someone needs a little more time for themselves here.
Take your time, I'll be back.
15 minutes later. Solvent and furniture polish still present, but in a weaker form. Well then. Damp cellar with the associated musty smell, leather, wet leaves, raisins, dried figs, prunes. Newspaper soaked in rain. A spice that cannot be defined in more detail breaks ground.
    • Taste
      86 86
The first sip is quite pleasant, you don't notice the almost 60%. Slightly creamy with caramel and fudge, freshly cut oak, leather, tobacco leaves. Nougat, grated almonds, roasted hazelnuts, crème brûlée (with a neatly caramelized top). Here too: spiciness, but rather diffuse and cannot be further described. Over time menthol and tart herbs.
    • Finish
      85 85
Very dry, woody, spicy, leathery, tart. If you recall one or the other robin that had matured for a similarly long time, you can only be surprised at this dry, tart finish without any fruity sweetness. Prunes, raisins, nougat.

Either the sample was "poor" or this Redbreast is really not my style... very dry, alcoholic, little/not aromatic, not at all Irish!

Very nice Irish sherry malt from the Redbreast series, which perfectly sums up the typical spiciness of pot stills and does not lose it completely even when water is added. Needs more time in the glass to develop. But then a diverse and varied, creamy sherry malt shows up. Very well!

You can almost smell the high alcohol content. Slightly stinging, alcoholic feeling in the nose. It also has a cooling effect for me. Eucalyptus/menthol comes to mind. In addition, a beautiful, rich fruitiness with dark dried fruits of raisins, figs, plums. A sweetened red grape juice, something like these "Red Cheek Juices", bring the sweet component. In the background there is still a rum chocolate, some nougat, and antique wood, slightly dusty attic, roasted nuts, and tobacco. With a little more With time in the glass, these old woody aromas become less and more and more spices emerge, marzipan, cinnamon, coriander, black pepper.Very beautiful and varied nose. This initially slightly alcoholic note is also completely gone and very well integrated.

      91 91
Good, decent portion of sharpness, absolutely not alcoholic here, rather intense oak spice with a chilli-hot component. This sharpness dominates a bit here, but water is not absolutely necessary. However, fruity notes are still evident. sweetness, leather, tobacco. Dark fruity with a syrupy sweetness.
Now with some water and ran again.
Now looks much creamier, softer and smoother. Chocolate aromas of caramel, nougat, cocoa become more intense and bring more sweetness. Alternating fruit and spices. Cherries, red berries, oranges. A light dry note of wood then comes to light in the background. The whole thing is a bit softer and not bitter due to the addition of water. I like it pretty much. Despite the addition of a little water, there is still enough spice and sharpness left that doesn't let you forget the pot-still character.
      Great malt!

Medium-length finish, it remains sweet and creamy, with an oak spiciness that is almost peppery-hot again, chocolate, tobacco,

needs a lot of water and time to penetrate its ostensible alcoholic dominance, but then its soft sherry creaminess clearly emerges - unfortunately overpriced
    • Nose
      89 89
The alcoholic pungency should be taken with water - rum raisins and red grape juice, nougat and caramel, dried red cranberries, rose hip jam
    • Taste
      90 90
Caramel, nougat, pomace, spices, sweet and sour cherries and raspberries, behind which the dryness of the oak barrel appears - significantly softer in the mouth than in the nose
    • Finish
      89 89
Medium-length and soft, with a subtle oak at the end - dangerously tasty despite the high alcohol content

    (TASTED BLIND)
NOSE: Lovely nose with old sherry and rum notes, then old polished mahogany wood, marsipan, almond drops. (91p) With time less wood and more rum, marsipan and almond drops (92p)
TASTE: The arrival is slightly sweet, bourbon like, on the mid palate quite a bit of wood and some pepper. Also citrus fruitiness. (91p)
FINISH: Sweet and oily. Fairly long. (89p)
    OVERALL: Total score 91 points.
