Great sounding cask usage and decent age statement made me excited to buy this one.
Tasting over the course of one year leads me to the final conclusion that Tomatin produces cheapo unmemorable products. Life is to short. Will not be buying and more of there products.

  2. St. Pauli scored this whisky 74 points Connoisseur

Unconvincing, undefined, no clear sign of port maturation. Not worth having in your cabinet as there is no unique selling point on this whisky.
    • Nose
      77 77
The nose is a bit undefined. Poached pear, honey sweet barley and sour fruit (redcurrant). There is a slight musty note too.
    • Taste
      74 74
Still rather undefined, quite crisp and grassy but there is a small sweet touch of honey. If there were influence from port casks, it would be some acitidy and a hint of leaf and spice. The spice gets more pronounced to the end.
    • Finish
      71 71
Rather dry, on dull oak, pepper and ginger and maybe just a hint of barley and fruit.

tomatin 14 port wood finish VS tomatin 18 oloroso sherry cask. the cask influence on the 18 year old is much stronger. you dont get the port here a lot, it is rather subtle. the malt tastes yunger than 14 years. had better but had worse also. i would not buy it again but it is still a decent dram
    • Nose
      87 87
minimal petrol notes, after that grass and hay, very fresh and subtle, resinous wood, vanilla and coconut. if someone wouldnet tell me that its a port cask finish i wouldnt get it but as i know i get some port notes, blackberries, hazelnut, milk chocolate, sweet honey, oats.
    • Taste
      82 82
strawberries, more fruits, decent sweetness, not very rich though. rather flat unfortunately.
    • Finish
      81 81
rather dry finish, not very rich, nonoily mouthfeel, some oaky notes with spices. peppery with some moncheri

Sweet, malty, perfumed, wine finish influence is obvious.
