    (TASTED BLIND)
NOSE: Rather sweet Bourbon notes, vanilla, banana, tropical, yellow Hubba Bubba, orchard fruits, wintergreen, herbal, summer flowers. Very pleasant nose. (86-87p)
TASTE: The arrival is rather dry. Fruity and astringent on the mid palate. (84p)
FINISH: Fruity, slightly astringent, a touch of black pepper. (84-85p)
OVERALL: Perhaps not perfectly balanced but not bad at all. A tasteful summer whisky. Total score 85 points.

The whisky has no special features but also no missing notes and is acceptably strong. A sensible drinking whisky that is particularly pleasing on the palate.
    • Nose

Grassy, light fruits, honey, vanilla, later fermented fruits, malt.
    • Taste
      83 83
Green tea, sweetness, vanilla, chocolate, honey. Quite soft.
    • Finish
      80 80

Bottle purchased in 2021. Fresh, flowery/grassy nose: typical lowland style. After a while the bourbon notes begin to appear, accompanied by hints of coriander and lime. A drop of water didn’t change the profile much. Crisp and clean on the palate, continuing in the lowland tradition (reminds me of some early 1990s Bladnoch distillate). Coffee and cream then emerge, before giving way to a relatively short, drying finish. This feels like a definite step up from when I last tried the Glenkinchie 12 a few years ago. Definitely a dram for when you’re in the mood for something light and easy. I really enjoyed it.

    Blind tasting Barrel-strong taste experiment:
Unspectacular and nothing special, tart fruit and wood tones, origin rather not a Scotch, probably a blend, almost 46% alcohol, NAS max. 10 years and standard, I don't really like it, but still drinkable ...
    • Nose
Steamed fruit, a hint of caramel and chocolate, unspectacular, reserved.
    • Taste
Dark yellow fruit, wooden, creamy, subtle sharpness in the aftertaste, also unspectacular and almost expressionless, slightly tart.
    • Finish
      -

  6. Gloin scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

    Blind tasting

    solid, unspectacular standard
    • Nose
fruity, slightly tart, apple, grape, dill, savory
    • Taste
nice start, light body, some sherry influence, sweet, apple, apricot, light spice
    • Finish
      warm, a little oak, solid

    Auchentochan 12 vs Glenkinchie 12

First acquaintance with the region, distilleries.

FRAGRANCE. The scent is light in both. Even extremely light. All the same, triple distillation is audible.
In Glenkinchy, it is somehow more interesting, more diverse, in Ahentoshena everything is straightforward and simple.

TASTE. It is empty, which is not good or bad for a given product, if we take into account the industry of production, price, degree.

AFTERTASTE. Blurred, generally akentoshen, emptiness, mixed with unpleasant moments. Ch. even more or less.

OUTPUT. Weak ... now, maybe a couple of years ago it would have been more interesting, working fluid, to get acquainted with the region, distillery, for show, as I did in principle.

    Glenkinchie 12 - 81
