18 years in Bourbon casks, 18 months in Aussie Shiraz casks.
NOSE: Oh, winey, almondy and marzipany opening. Then manuka and heather honey, red fruits, dried fennel, aniseed, strawberry bubble gum, perfume, camphor, cinnamon, lemon peel. Keeps evolving. (88p).
TASTE: Red wine and spices in the arrival. On the mid palate camphor, herbal honey, lemon, cranberries. (87p).
FINISH: Camphor drops, honey, a little wood spice. Medium long (85p).
OVERALL: Complex - almost to confusion. But interesting. And good. Total score 87 (86) points.

Superb estery-fruity. Black currents, red apples, peach, nectarine and (with a lil bit of time) orange. Good maltiness. Leathers. The acidity from oxidised wine can also be found
    • Taste
      86 86
Prunes opens up in the mouths. Chewing brings out a LOT of cream. Buiscuity.
Starts rather bland, but gets sweeter along with drinking. This is followed by mild acidity on the tongue. Mild oak bitterness. Milky. Medium body, rather round.

      Vanilla and cream last long

Serious mature whisky and at the same time playful wine due to 18-month additional aging in Australian Shiraz barrels. Very good, but the wine component seemed excessive to me.
    • Nose
Meets with shades of young foliage, white grapes, light raisins, croissant and wine. Behind them hides the tones of marmalade and Buratino soda.
    • Taste
White grapes, wine note, apricot jam, fresh pastries and ringing tannins.
    • Finish
Sufficiently long-lasting, astringent, wine-like, repeating the taste palette.

    Crusade

I was very much impressed with the first Teeling in this Renaissance series, that was finished on Madeira casks. I called it Irish glühwein. The second one in the series got a finish on Australian Shiraz casks, a wine from a grape variety that was brought from the Middle East to France during the Crusades, but I digress. This sounds equally interesting.

Outstanding notes on tropical fruit in a stew (pineapple, mango, banana, strawberry) with a hint of bubble gum. OMG, I am in love! I can smell this for days. Candy-like, sure, but that does not bother me in the slightest.

On the palate the influence of the Shiraz casks is very clear, but at no point does it dominate. The Teeling DNA remains intact and is beautifully flanked by tropical sweet fruit with a soft spiciness. Even the fact that it is bottled at ‘only’ 46% is a non-issue. That balance is fine, just like the body of this beautiful malt.

    Long, sweet, spicy, warm finish.

Hallelujah, I have to get me a bottle of this. You would start a crusade for less. Around 130 EUR only. No brainer! Thank you, Benny.
