A young smoky bottling from a lowland distillery? Interesting for sure. For a 0,5L bottle the price is quite hefty (Around 60€ if I remember correctly). But I trust The whisky chamber, a small german independent bottler, a lot and got a sample of another Annandale by The whisky chamber out of a Bourbon Barrel and I was convinced immediately to buy this one.

Wow what an impressive whisky. Seriously can’t believe it is this young. In my opinion this gives Lagavulin 16 and Ardmore Uigedail serious competition in the future. Annandale is now on my watchlist and there will be many more in my collection

Starts with Vanilla, limes, barley and apricots but that is soon pushed back by a super dominant maritime salted peat smoke. One of the saltiest whiskies I ever nosed. I don’t know if you have ever been in Portugal but their national fish is cod, and they keep cod super salted in supermarkets. That’s what that smell reminds me of. Once you keep it in the glass a little longer it opens up to floral and honey sweetness but this again changes the longer you keep it in. My nose would think this is a Ledaig. Very complex for such a young age.

Very smooth, opens up super sweet, vanilla, toffee, honey and maple sirup this is then replaced by the before mentioned smoke, salt and limes but it is more refined and not as rash as the nose. The longer you keep it in the more salt you get. There is also a fruity sweetness in the background like fermented pears and grapes.

Long and salty. Confirms the taste is very sweet at the start and then gives way for another wave of salt seaweed, smoked fish and burnt limes this is so powerful. Later I get again kind of floral sweet notes. And aforementioned fruits there is also a lovely oak note lingering in the back, how is this possible at such a young age. I can’t believe this is not from Islay.
