    Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2021 Review - 96 points

There is almost syrupy thickness to the fruit, which in itself is unusual for the depth of pear-like lead. Oh... my... word...!!! What happened there? My palate has just been submerged in one of the stickiest yeat beautifully crafted fruit deliveries it hs come across in years. This is like some kind of chocolate liqueur. Even with a slight hint of passion fruit, to up the eye-watering qualities. Salivating and so chocolatey.... Still a little passion fruit on the finla with spcies and buley running amok. One of those rare whiskies which is every bit as remarkable for its mouthfeel than it is for its flavour personality, which in itself borders on the unique. No, what the hell! This IS unique! A malt whose beauty you can only marvel at.... I am truly blown away...

    Quite a well done LL!
Fair price for the quality you will get. It doesnt need much water, but it sure has benefit from some.
    • Nose
      88 88
Burst of fruityness like you will only get in LL. Clear bourrbon barrel influences but not much of the wine.
There is some apple, plum and even pineapple in here.
    • Taste
      87 87
Again burst of sweetness. Thick oily mouthfeel and a bit on the bourbon side. Some sweet white wine influences are to be found in the background.
Little vanilla and wood, quite some sweetness of the wood and fruity flavours.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium-long length. Burst of vanilla, fudge and oily notes. Fades away with some wood notes.

Happy to be able to taste this new Single Cask by Loch Lomond! This one has been matured on a bourbon cask for 9.5 years, before being finished for 8-9 months in an Alvi’s Drift Muscat de Frontignan wine cask. This dessert wine is so incredibly full on sweet, thick and syrupy that it could have been experienced as a PX sherry as well. This red dessert wine gives a burst of red fruits like dates, plumbs an liquid raisins. This whisky turned out friendly, gentle and delicate all the way with a clear layer of the finish cask. What they did very well here, is that the finish period was just 8 months. The Muscat cask never gets dominant but does add a beautiful layer instead.
This fellow needs his time inside the glass. A little patience adds to the experience a lot!
    • Nose
This is a beautiful, full flavored nose. Complex, balanced, sweet, a wee sourness and quite some freshness as well. Fruits like mango, apricot, unripe pear. Fresh ginger, licorice, vanilla ice cream, grapes and fresh oak. There is sweet raisins in the background. Very pleasant nose!
    • Taste
Fresh and smooth on arrival, soon after this it gets beautifully well rounded. It’s body grows and develops inside the mouth. It’s starting with giving mild sweet spices like vanilla, after that some red fruit is growing together with pine tree. It, to me, gives an experience like it is a very old style whisky. There is that musty/dusty layer to be found.
    • Finish
Rather long. It’s sweet, warming, well balanced and very delicate! It here where I find that the wine cask used for the finish is the most prominent. It’s incredibly silky, friendly and smooth! Quite impressive! Again lots of mild spices. A little cinnamon and anise here.

An interesting take on the Loch Lomond profile. Loch Lomond seems to be a hate it or love it distillery...and I for sure would say the latter. This muscat barrel gave this whisky loads of yellow fruits sweetness like tinned peaches, orange juice, yellow raisins but also marzipan. That is followed by some fresh and hot spices like ginger, pepper and eucalyptus’ish aromas. Very tasty whisky but young and restless, time and handwarmth did little, water took some sharpness away but also made it less thick. Don’t recognize these insane scores over here ;)

Unfortunately a Cask Strength with too much of the typical CS properties which I like the least.
Too sharp, not distinctive in smell, even sharp in the finish for a long time.

Another great attempt and effort by Loch Lomond distillery. They are doing something pretty well down there near the lake. The 93 points or even 96 points I do not get, but a decent score is well deserved.
    • Nose
      88 88
A great mature nose. No domination of any specific flavors here. Nicely balanced; the finish has this time definitely added value. Sweet combination of oranges, mango and vanilla.
    • Taste
      87 87
Quite a thick and oily structure. Nice Muscat flavors; but not too much. A few drops of water are desired. Great mouth feeling. Warm and oily.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium long to long finish. Sweetness nicely vanishes in the end. No sign of typical spicy Loch Lomond flavors anywhere. Could be that the wine finish took that away.

Nice notes of sweet apples, grapes, a little vanilla.
    • Taste
      87 87
The dram is very balanced, well balanced. Despite the high alcohol percentage, this is not negative, except for a short bite (which does it good).
Deliciously sweet (apricots, red apples, marzipan, milk chocolate) and greasy
    • Finish
      88 88
Long complex finish in which the sweet (again chocolate and marzipan, candy bacon) above all lingers together in an oily layer. Very nice dram!
