  1. LeChiffre scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

A pleasant-to-drink malt without too much complexity. All in all tasty and tasty (even if you notice the youth on the palate), without much recognition value. Not a must-have. I liked Chapter One a little better.

Dark golden colour. Quite an oily structure.
    • Nose
      83 83
Fresh fruit. Ripe apples. Peaches. Some noticeable alcohol. Light focus. Honey. Vanilla. Caramel. Maybe some citrus. Pears. Spices. Cinnamon. On the second nose, it is even sweeter and less fruity. More of a caramel-honey profile.
    • Taste
      84 84
Quite full and intense in the mouth. Fruit. Apples and peaches. Some barrel, but not that old. Lots of caramel. Vanilla. Honey. Spices. Light focus. Pepper, maybe even chili. Honey again. Quite oily. Lots of honey. Sweet syrup.
    • Finish
      85 85
Pretty sweet. Lots of honey. Vanilla. Caramel. Toffee. Delicate spice. White pepper. Cinnamon. sticks. Pleasant. Only gently and in a non-disturbing way palpable oak. Peaches in sweet syrup. Quite long. After the second sip, notes of cocoa, dark chocolate and burnt barrel arrived.

It’s hard to surprise anyone with sweetness alone now, but it clearly smooths out the serious shortcomings of exposure.
In general, an unexpectedly pleasant and complex-compound aroma, but the taste betrays that the whisky has not yet been "cooked".

    • Nose
Fresh bread mash, malt, hotness of spices, fruity-creamy, honey, lemon peel, menthol anesthesia, dry thin willow branches
    • Taste
Most, if we take the ratio of components - fragrant, bready, sweet mash. Further: duchesse, dark superheated candies, lemon juice, vanilla, sizzling bold and even cinnamon spicy.
There is some dryness and astringency, but more like fresh oak than sherry casks.
He let the glass breathe - and a plate of fruit appeared.
      Sweetness 7 out of 10
    • Finish
Light, burning, bitter and slightly woody, bread mash and duchesse.
It seems to me that it is difficult, like other whiskys, to categorize the aftertaste.

    S 6
Sherry influence is light on this, like a final elevating touch on an already completed drawing. Chapter three has more balance than this due to the vetting mix and it tasted rounder, I’m guessing the liquid used in Chapter three stayed longer in casks. Smells like a treat, drink like a heat monster.

    [71-77] Worth a try.

    N 25
Up-front sherry taken over by young oak spices almost immediately, becomes more balanced over time. Plenty of vanilla. Juicy wood. A whiff of citrusy, think orange peel.

    P 23
Juicy and spicy. Orchard fruit (red apple). Toffee. Oak spices (chilli, crushed peppercorn, nutmeg, cloves) dominated the entire palate. A touch of oak bitterness around the edges. Vanilla & runny honey are in the background.

    F 23
Mid finish with lightly toasted wood being still. Spices heat lingering with some underlying freshly squeezed & filtered apple juice.

As a self-confessed Glengoyne fanboy, I also had to share and taste this bottling.
A slightly different bottling from Glengoyne, which also fits perfectly into my prey scheme. Emphasis on the fruitiness.

Nice drinking strength. Definitely starting, then juicy oranges, before a nutty spice joins in. Not quite typical of Glengoyne.
    • Finish

Chocolate joins the orange. jelly fruits. Soft Cake Orange. medium length

N: fresh, honey, vanilla, apples, pears, oranges, pineapple.
T: apples, honey, vanilla, malt, oranges.
F: tangy, fruity, orange peel, a lot of alcohol.
It'd been better if alcohol were better integrated.

1658) Glengoyne, The Legacy Series, Chapter Two - Peter Russell, 48% first-fill bourbon barrels, 17% first-fill sherry and 35% in refill casks, Bottled 2020
    • Nose
N- Fresh and delicate, toasty and honeyed leads to ginger edge, teasing fat spiciness over sweet vanilla. Open up well just after a brief moments with luscious rum-coffee chocolate, more toasted oak, red liquorice candy of ripe strawberry and cherry extracts. (86/20)
    • Taste
P- Always a tad pronounced on oak from the Guin, but the nutty sweetness and scents of berries copes ably with that. Vibrant with good strength to swims along. (86/20)
    • Finish
F- Medium, nicely dry out with residual of toasted nut and sweet oak spices, zings of mineralic rustiness capped it off well. (86/20)
      B/B- 86/20
      Weighted Rate- 80pt

    • Nose
The nose is composed by a lot of fruit, apples, peaches, pears, oranges… and accompanied by honey and caramel.
    • Taste
The taste is sweet with honey and caramel and then the tons of fruits, like pineapples, apples, peaches and pears. It is very sweet, but with some notes of bitterness from citrus and a hint of spicy from cinnamon. Lovely in one word!
    • Finish
The finish is medium long sweet but with the spiciness being accentuated with time.

Melon, apples, vanilla, coconut, honey, cooked fruits. Raisins, sultanas, chocolate, baking spices. Creamy and buttery. The bourbon barrels dominate at first, but the sherry influence slowly comes to the fore with time in the glass. The end result is a very nice balance between the two. The finish is a little short, but overall a very tasty dram.

  16. Stanzeflasche scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

Nose younger than the older editions, but also more robust. The influence of Bourbon is predominant, on limestone and juicy fruits. Vanilla, lemon, but also melon, passion fruit, even pineapple. Some limestone reflections also. Pebbles at the bottom of a river bed. A pinch of salt. In the mouth, there is body, but this time it is the Sherry that stands out, with marked spices. Paprika, saffron, black pepper. Wet wood, quickly varnished. Long and imposing finish, without being aggressive, electrifying, on the paper of Armenia. Cinnamon.

Nose - Upon nosing, a gush of lemon citrus bourbon like jumps out, little honey sweetness
Taste - Slight pepperish, then buttery oiliness being spread upon savoring, followed by sweetness and a tinge of bitterness comes along
Finish - Soft waves of woodiness lingering with a nice aromatic hovering in the back of the throat, light orange peel bitterness with short to medium finish.

Vanilla on the front, furniture wood, fairly fruity and floral as well. Might be a little bit perfume-y but it's acceptable to me. Hopefully the perfume-y don't develop further on the palate.

A bit of a step from last year, but still somewhat disappointing considering the gravitas the name evokes.
    • Nose
A sweet vanilla liqueur note to kick things off. Just a touch of sultanas, overripe bananas and custard. There's some cinnamon in the background as well, with a little citrus and some juicy pineapple to liven things up.
    • Taste
Somewhat creamy, but also a peppery, oaky and lightly drying first sip. Notes of honey and red apple too. Touches of crème brûlée and a whiff of menthol.
    • Finish
Lingering spices and oak. Medium in length.
