Thanks to kfhakan for supplying samples of all 7 recreations in the "Classic Selection".
One can ask what the purpose is, but then what's the purpose of any blend?
I find the concept interesting and nostalgic, and I like the bottles and label design.
This is a lost Islay distillery.
    • Nose

Far from a peat monster, yet the typical briny Islay peat is present. Sweet yellow fruits with an acidic zesty edge.
    • Taste
      84 84
The arrival is sweet and fruity. Good level of spice, and it grows throughout. And of course there’s peat, it wouldn’t be an “old” Islay without it.
I suspect the main ingredient here is a young Caol Ila.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium length. Very warming with an almost menthol note. As the spice fade it gains a lot of sweetness.

When I saw this was an Islay distillery I was looking forward to it and it was a let down. Nevermind I appreciate their effort.

It has the Islay traits alright so a pat on the back for that.
But it smells like a nas Laphroaig, that rained down peat and the light fruit notes.
      Some banana and white pepper.
    • Taste
      76 76
Yeah it tastes like a nas Laphroaig as well, maybe a bit harsh on Laphroaig.
A sweet arrival that disperses fairly quickly and the peat sinks into a pit of dried fruit that has seen better days.
    • Finish
      75 75
The finish is quite astringent and dry with pepper and salt on the death.

  3. holborndrinker scored this whisky 79 points Connoisseur

Out of the selection of six from whence this comes I have tried four already - this one, my fifth isn't bad.

Nail polish, rhubarb & custard sweets.
    • Taste
      79 79
      Light, dry sherry
    • Finish
      79 79
Some spice notes at the end.
