  1. Maltimex scored this whisky 83 points Expert Junior

Certainly this Port Charlotte was able to find its connoisseurs, my taste this bottling of the A Dream of Scotland series is not able to convince this time. In general, however, it is really wonderful that the Brühler Whiskyhaus offers the opportunity to try such malts at reasonable prices! Keep it up!
    • Nose

Tyrolean bacon and juniper are waiting first - a little unusual, but very interesting. Swiss herbal sweets are also added and the smoke is typically dirty. There is a subtle note of menthol over everything; I was not able to noticeably notice the sherry finish up to this point. With a little more time in the glass, you could still suspect a slight campfire note.
    • Taste
      82 82
The start is bitter, dirty and appears to me as clearly unbalanced. The bitter note is rather unpleasant for my taste - behind it is rotten wood, which I also find unpleasant. With imagination and time I like to hear a hint of sweetness - but the Manzanilla doesn't really like to boast. With the addition of water, only the menthol note from the alcohol disappears, the other aromas hardly change for me.
    • Finish
      83 83
The finish is medium-long and also dominated by bitter notes, the smoke is now only slightly noticeable. The finish is accompanied by a slight sweetness, which is now able to set a small counterpoint to the bitterness.

I would like to like it more, but this not for me. The flavors don't match, they fight.

  5. Boletus did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

A very interesting combination of the typical ''Port Charlotte'' profile and the very sweet Manzanilla Sherry casks used for finishing. I wouldn't exactly describe the mixture as complex, rather quite wacky in its combination of aromas. The whisky is never boring and gives the palate and nose a lot of pleasure, but for me personally the malt is a bit too sweet to ignite full enthusiasm.
    • Nose
Sticky, sweet first impression, slightly dried and extremely sweet grapes, also a hint of canned peaches, behind which there are strong and both tart-fresh and musty notes of wood, a small splash of lemon, the aromatic BBQ smoke has a hard time coming to the fore fight, in connection with the sticky sweetness it is reminiscent of dates in a crispy bacon coat, served with roasted spiced bread with yellow, cheesy farmer's butter, a pinch of cinnamon, after a little air access, the typical cow barn scent comes out, animal-spicy and a bit scruffy, a touch of silo blows around your nose with a few oily ash particles
    • Taste
Very creamy texture, with an enormous sticky sweetness, grape concentrate and light summer honey, candied pieces of papaya and canned peaches create a certain artificial sugary fruit note, slightly tingling is added a little lemon zest, together with the mouthfeel it is reminiscent of lemon butter, very light hazelnut cream, the wood comes across as a bit musty and musty, also a bit cheesy, the greasy smoky note with the slightly ashy aftertaste lets it turn in the hearty direction again
    • Finish
Adequate length, some pepper and candied ginger deliver a slight spiciness at the beginning, followed by cinnamon peat smoke, then the honey-sweet finish with toffee sets in, a smoldering campfire of rotten driftwood is extinguished by a gush of seawater, a sweet and at the same time greasy smoky aftertaste with some ash remains

The impression of a great sweet smoke aroma with many typical Port Charlotte derivatives is completely broken on the flat taste with bulging alcohol and absolutely no finish

The nose presents a hot peat, wood fire and dried fruits (hazelnuts and almonds) that the dilution leads to a more vegetal ground, of the moss.
The palate is round, peaty and sweet and the texture is deliciously oiled. The alcohol is very well integrated.
Long iodine, saline and sapid finish.
Fine and very gourmet, a beautiful marriage: the distillate dominates and the Manzanilla adds just a few welcome touches.

Delicious PC, for once not completely drowned in a sherry barrel.

Aroma: apples, pears, floral, spices and wet wood, confectionery theme, chocolate platter, jam, I can't say for sure from which berries, sometimes smokiness rolls over, creosote flashed very thinly, sweetish notes of bread with coriander like Borodinsky.
Taste: smoky, dry, mineral, the second sip is more watery, apple.
Aftertaste: continuation of taste, smokiness, minimal, medium duration, long.
The total is 87, strong notes in the aroma, but a slight drawdown in taste, you expect more sweetness and tones.

    A Nightmare of Scotland

  21. Tauti scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

I'm completely on the line of Maltimex. Otherwise I'm a big fan of Marco's bottlings. Here at our tastes are not in line.

While the nose still promises cowshed, bacon, sweetness and sea, an unpleasant bitter element takes over in the mouth and finish. Pity...

  22. didi1893 scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

WTF! The nose is wonderfully creamy and greasy, sweet and fruity, smoky and peaty. The taste almost hits me! Musty cowshed with milk chocolate! Otherwise a very mild and nevertheless powerful PC. Most of the time, the finishes from the Brühler Whiskyhaus are always extravagant and special, and this time too I think the combination is very successful.

    • Nose
Light amber shimmers slightly red in the Premium Snifter while a multitude of oily "legs" find their way back into the glass on the glass wall. Streaky bacon and smoked meat left out in butter are wonderfully greasy and creamy, red grapes and berries come out sweetly, the alcohol tickles the nose powerfully one or the other time. Grilled strawberries and peaches ... I am briefly distracted, dozens of oily "legs" pull their endless paths on the glass wall, a wonderful sight! It goes on ... Sweet smoke, creamy peat, grilled fruits, oily bacon, hints of fly ash, sweet grapes and berries, caramel and old cinnamon sticks.
    • Taste
The first sip flows gently and gently through the mouth. A mixture of cowshed and creamy milk chocolate immediately dominates the taste. I have to pause for a moment and let the strange first impression work on me ;-). Musty cowshed with milk chocolate! The second sip also reveals this strange but delicious taste profile to me. Sweet grapes are added, caramel and peat, in the background there is a warm smoky note with a hint of burnt wood and fly ash. Creamy and mild, sweet and fruity, smoky and peaty, oily and greasy.
    • Finish
The finish starts off musty with a touch of peppery sharpness. Peat pulls warm with smoke through the throat, sweet berries stick with caramel and milk chocolate on the palate, hazelnuts and lightly burnt wood come into their own. The aftertaste will remain warm in your memory for a long time.

To Islay1815, I don't quite understand what it is for you to comment on the issue price, your notes would be more exciting and also supply and demand determine the price, or do you live under communism?
    .
For me the Port Charlotte from Marco vom Brühler Whiskyhaus was once again a great whisky. Unfortunately, I don't have Notes either, since it's been a while since I've tried it, all I know is that it was good

N: peat, straight away. Sweet, sour notes come from below. And, of course, there’s a tiny cheesy note as well. Laddie after all. But the (more) sour (than sweet) note dominates

M: the sweet peatiness completely fills your mouth. The dryness from the Sherry cask leaves a not really subtle note here. But it’s not spicy. It’s really mellow

F: sadly the finish is rather short. Tasty but not exceptional again

A very interesting whisky, intense, no missing notes, clearly recognizable as a PC, but not 100% my taste from the basic aromas in the mouth
    • Nose
Dry, slightly sour, burnt caramel, the Laddie character shines through, spicy medium-strong smoke, nut, creamy, slightly salty, cake batter with buttercream, overripe grapes, after the first sip the cinnamon can also be found as a light tone in the nose
    • Taste
oily, cinnamon, strong spicy smoke, sweet, buttercream, grapes, caramel, creamy, full-bodied, intense, slightly nutty
    • Finish
I still have to think of cakes, cream cakes with cinnamon, the smoke is still very present
