Whisky Reviews for Penderyn 2016

- Truely something else when you're coming from your typical Single Malt Scotch Whisky... but interesting and engaging enough if you are open enough. Very intense barrel, color is an omen for the flavors to come. Hard to say if one needs a whole bottle, but def worth a try. Price ok for such a special single cask.
- A whisky that you should try if you are looking for new experiences off the beaten track. Guaranteed unique composition for which you have to take your time. With the addition of water, it is great to explore.
The smell is surprisingly different: after boiled plums and dried fruits, fresh beetroot with earth on it follows, sweetish, vegetable-like, earthy and somewhat musty. A bit towards Bowmore but no smoke.
In the mouth it is very complex and oily. Without water also very powerful with the young cask strength. Lots of dark fruit from berries and red grapes towards ice wine. In addition, syrupy sweet with vanilla and spices such as cinnamon and cloves. It tolerates a significant addition of water and then allows even more spicy differentiations. The musty remains in the background and also makes the taste unique.
The finish is long-lasting and astringent with sweet dried fruits, caramel and vanilla, plus some oak, herbs and coffee.
