Is that age good enough? Can not be! Barrel magic or some other trick?
Fine whisky, but young and youthful, with its noisyness, pressure, its spree and dashing carelessness, drowns out other, subtle, but modest tones that one would like to enjoy in silence.
In a diluted form, this release would have looked, perhaps, more interesting!
Such a gorgeous Barrel could serve as the finish line for something older!

    • Nose
Bright tones of dark, caramelized malt, the cover of a waxed book with pictures and expensive printing, grape motifs of pulp and a damp wine cellar with dusty barrels, the smell of an old restaurant and the green cloth of a casino, glycerin and where without vanilla!
    • Taste
Skinny, oily and full-bodied, very fresh, young and, unfortunately, still unripe, a lot of tannin grape astringency and wine dryness, sweetness 6.5 out of 10, blackberries, chocolate, coffee, prunes, ginger, figs, dates (but all this fruit and berry is strongly suppressed by prickly youth, as is often the case with youths).
    • Finish
Dry, powerful, energetic, balanced, full of oak and grape seed tannins.
Knits! ..and I get bogged down deeply and for a long time, if you don't take a second sip!

Wow, fragrance explosion. Apple, crème brulée, figs, sultanas, apple syrup, honey, soft, warm and full.

One of these crazy penderyns, I don’t know how they come up with young, yet still good, whiskies with these crazy barrels. This is definitely one for the color drinkers, but you have to be in the mood for something like this, it is not your typical whisky, or probably not even a whisky at all as it tastes really weird. But if you are open to it, take your time and play with water it turns out to be quite good. I could not do a review without water though, because I really don’t like this without water.

Jesus, is that perfume? I mean it smells ok, but normally I don’t drink perfume. By perfume I mean, sadly, a really cheap perfume that bothers you in the nose. If you dig deeper then you get some berry notes, but I can’t get the perfume out of my nose. I can’t find much more then perfume that is a little bit on the berry side and rosewater.

Well this must have been a very active cask, it is super sweet, like berry wine but still carries some sharpness with it berries berries berries, a bit of vanilla, and then an overwhelming sharpness.

Starts out very sharp as well. I’m getting tears in my eyes while drinking it. Immediately a lot of oak that almost burns your throat, this is then followed by berries and vanilla, and well… nothing more than an oak bitterness.

Truely something else when you're coming from your typical Single Malt Scotch Whisky... but interesting and engaging enough if you are open enough. Very intense barrel, color is an omen for the flavors to come. Hard to say if one needs a whole bottle, but def worth a try. Price ok for such a special single cask.

A whisky that you should try if you are looking for new experiences off the beaten track. Guaranteed unique composition for which you have to take your time. With the addition of water, it is great to explore.

The smell is surprisingly different: after boiled plums and dried fruits, fresh beetroot with earth on it follows, sweetish, vegetable-like, earthy and somewhat musty. A bit towards Bowmore but no smoke.
    • Taste
      90 90
In the mouth it is very complex and oily. Without water also very powerful with the young cask strength. Lots of dark fruit from berries and red grapes towards ice wine. In addition, syrupy sweet with vanilla and spices such as cinnamon and cloves. It tolerates a significant addition of water and then allows even more spicy differentiations. The musty remains in the background and also makes the taste unique.
    • Finish
      88 88
The finish is long-lasting and astringent with sweet dried fruits, caramel and vanilla, plus some oak, herbs and coffee.
