SMWS Tasting Notes: The beautifully glowing, reddish-brown color suggested good things and our nose was not disappointed - on the contrary! Spicy, slightly sweet dried fruits, candied orange slices with dark chocolate and a dash of sherry make this whisky a real experience. A strong start on the palate, but then surprisingly mild and with a large variety of flavors, especially leather and pipe tobacco, followed by vanilla and raisins. The finish is almost endless and is reminiscent of a strong espresso. After adding a few drops of water, notes of caramel, baked apples and a compote made from dried fruit are added, while the taste reminded us of a balsamic vinegar that had been ripened in cherry wood for decades. After 11 years in a Bourbon Hogshead, this whisky was stored in a heavily charred, fresh oak barrel for the rest of its time.
