Very interesting whisky with a rare and unusual profile which I don't come across much. Reminds me a little bit of some Rare Malt bottlings of the past.
    • Nose
It starts quite chalky with lots of wet stones. Some metallic notes of old coins. Ginger tonic. Maltiness and grainy as well. Hay and heather. Also flowery notes of lilac. A little mint at the background.
    • Taste
Very punchy and acrid with hints of lemon, lime and citrus. Followed by gooseberries, peel zest and meringue. Some pistachio nuts. Cream vanilla as well. Cinnamon and cloves.
    • Finish
Long and warming. Nutmeg. Ginger. Pine. Becomes salty at the end.

Honeyed sweetness with a nutty background. Clean and easy to drink. A no-frills nor no wrong notes, just could've wished it were more complex.

N: My Old & Rare Whisky Festival gets of to a cracking start with my second ever Glen Albyn, a closed distillery dram priced the same [for a 1cl measure], as a glass of Hardy's Shiraz at the local Travelodge. I know which i prefer, though i’m not sure the Travelodge bar is open just yet. My morning nose detects honeyed, grassy toffee, straw and goats yoghurt.
T: Exactly the same here. Seemingly straight ahead sugary, honeyed, grassy malt but with an even oily, silky direction.
    F: Honey and beeswax
    C: A very nice starter.
