Whisky Reviews for Ben Nevis 1996 BMWh

4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.55 points

Nose: pleasant and the strongest thing about the dram - not too overloaded, alcohol perfect
Mouth: unfortunately a bit thin for the age / maybe I have too high expectations - the oak flavor comes out well - vanilla notes and a little pepperiness, which I find positive, but did not expect
Finish: beautiful oak remains / finish center aisle

Conclusion: I'll give the whisky another chance soon - the barrel wasn't too active for me, but it left its mark. Decent device, but I would have been more blind at 15-18 than 23 years

A creamy and fruity 1996, quite typical and nicely spirit-driven. Later, the Ben Nevis industrial dirt and spices kick in for a dry finish with Mango Lassi memories.

I was at the IB yesterday and tried the whisky while picking up my 2 that I had ordered and one for a friend that also lives in Luxembourg.
I’ve had a few Ben Nevis in the glass, but mostly sherry finishes and they all had that kind of “dirty” taste.
This was kind of a surprise as completely aged in a Bourbon Cask.
It was really smooth, had flavors of white peach, citrus fruits (orange, lemon, tangerine), a hint of pepper and also a hint of vanilla.
The alcohol is very well integrated and could have used maybe 1-2% more but I guess that’s what gives it this smoothness. After the 2nd sip you get a wonderful vanilla note at the end, but not that typical vanilla you find in most bourbon casks but more like the French bourbon vanilla used in high quality deserts or ice creams. All in that you still find the white fruits and all at the end a subtle menthol note point.
The length is medium and more or less consistent with other Bourbon finishes I know.
Great whisky and looking forward to sharing the odd bottle with friends at home.

Absolute premium malt from the Bourbon Hogshead!
Very balanced in smell, light alcohol note at the beginning but not too intense. Scent of citrus fruits, light grapes, vanilla, even a hint of cream, followed by a little spice.
Very very very harmonious finish, alcohol very well integrated, clear vanilla taste, grapes, light spice, very little wood ...... This malt is absolutely premium, why not more of it?
For me one of the best from 1996 and finally something from the Bourbon Hogshead ????
94 points from my side and more than deserved!
