Great. Really great Glengoyne. I will look for it in the secondary market.
    • Nose
Ultra sweet, raspberries, delicate berries, strawberries, figs, apple juice.
    • Taste
Lightly sweet, fruits - a lot of fruits, cream desert, raisins, dark honey, bitter flavours in the background after a longer time in mouth.
    • Finish
      Long, bitter, dry sandal wood.

Had it a few times to reflect the mood of the day, but this whisky just stays very good (especially considering it's 15 years old). However, the actual Glengoyne character is no longer really recognizable. Lots of chocolate, sweetness, dark fruits, a nice dessert - a true unicorn of this quality... I give it a fair 91 out of 100 points.

    July 2022:
Picked up the Glengoyne again today and an update is needed. The whisky is improving, especially in terms of taste. I now get a whopping 92 out of 100 points.

Perfume, soap, beeswax, dried plums, mature prunes, ripe dates, very fruity. A very inviting nose!

Medium long, full of raisins, nuts, chocolate and dark honey. Warm and sweet. A great finish to a very good dram!

Chic glengoyne. Not worse than their brothers in sherry barrels. Very rich in all aspects, despite the age of 15. You can sit with this for hours. Balance sheet 23.Total 90.5-91.5
    • Nose
      92 92
The aroma is very intense. At first it seems like pure sherry. A little later, notes of red sweet wine emerge. Prunes with dried cherries. Chocolate with dried figs. Strawberry cherry jam. Very rich and long-lasting. It seems that the scent will not fade away forever. 22.5-23
    • Taste
      91 91
The taste continues the chic aroma. All the same berries and dried fruits slightly sprinkled with salt. Melon with ham. Burnt candies, a drop of lemon. Very exquisite. 22.5-23
    • Finish
      90 90
Long finish. Enveloping, candied, dried fruits are mixed with woody notes. Pepper, leather, astringency. 22.5

15 years in the former Tawny Port Pipe - what can we expect? Tawny Port is a multi-faceted category of sweet wine from the Douro Valley, which has been matured in the pipe for at least two years, often significantly longer. As the storage time increases, the color of the port changes from deep red to light blonde gold - tawny, in fact - due to oxidation. Characteristic of the taste are dried fruits and woody-nutty aromas, the older the more intense. You can also find notes of chocolate and a wide variety of (citrus) fruits. Could go well with the light and fruity Glengoyne distillate.
    • Nose
      90 90
the relatively dark color suggests a rather young tawny, intense tones of sticky dried fruits rise from the glass, thick vanilla and caramel, well integrated oak, slightly oily and salty-fleshy, firm citrus fruits, cherries and prunes, raisins and dried figs, Hazelnut and gentle oak spice, apricot and date, fresh bread, wild berries, honeycomb, boiled apple, a touch of rosemary and mint, orange syrup
    • Taste
      91 91
powerful and rich, oily and sweet with lots of sticky dried fruits and lots of barrel wood, virtuoso spice notes make it look older than a decade and a half, caramel and mocha, apple, vanilla, fleshy and salty notes, cherries and prunes, leather, hazelnut and walnut, honeycomb and aromatic honey, orange syrup, cocoa, brown sugar
    • Finish
      89 89
vital, beeswax, strong oak with clove and cinnamon, slightly salty, leather and marzipan, hazelnuts, vanilla and caramel, umami, the dried fruits hold back a little here, but they can easily be found in the form of prunes and figs, cocoa powder, walnuts , slightly malty and bitter, some cherry and sulfur

A lot came over from the port, it was a very active barrel. The distillery character, however, rarely goes under. Dangerously tasty.

without H2O: somewhat concentrated, fruity and spicy, plums and a little dried fruit, slightly sweet. + H2O: more open and fruity, many nice spicy aromas, trace herbaceous, pleasant and inviting, alcohol is well integrated and barely noticeable, a hint of nutty.
    • Taste
      91 91
warm, fruity-spicy-sweet, wood / oak, some dried fruit, spices, a hint of perfumed, chocolate, a little bit tart to slightly bitter.
Without adding water: warm, spicy-fruity, lots of spices, for a moment a hint of alcoholic heat, plums, dried fruit, sweetish and somewhat concentrated, barrel trace. Fine wood / oak notes, fine-dry to bitter-sweet. Delicious.
    • Finish
      90 90
Initially slightly tart with wood / oak, a little dark chocolate, spices. Then again with dried fruit and a hint of plums. Sounds like a long, slightly bitter oak note. Finally a touch of malty. I like it with and without water. Delicious.

Color a little reddish, a little more intense than the Glengoyne 25.
Scent: appears almost like sherry (less like port), fruit (pear?), Very little cardboard, tastes older than it is, grape, dark chocolate, oak spice, caramel, cream, sweetness, liqueur-like, raisin, beeswax, only needs a little water , round, creamy, mouthcoating, very long finish, dream whisky.

    Wonderful color.
The port seems to be making itself felt.
    Oily drops on the glass.

You can smell the port straight away.
    Very intense and fruity.
There are cherries, wood and lots of alcohol.
    Strong barrel notes over time.

    Hey, he's moving in.
Extremely strong, drove the saliva into my mouth.
    But it remains very aromatic.
In terms of taste, sweetness takes a back seat,
makes room for the wood aromas.
My mouth is a bit furry, it was so strong when it started.
But I don't want to dilute it.

    Quite a long finish
with lasting wood and delicate vanilla.

    Really good!

Splendid. There is nothing wrong with this malt. An unclouded, mouthwashing pleasure
    • Nose
Dark, ripe grapes and notes of lovage, almost a bit like stock powder; sweet and spicy. A touch of polished leather. Malt sugar can also be found. Deep, dark, full aromas. The subtle peppery sharpness should not be missing at Glengoyne.
    • Taste
Sweet rock sugar, a pleasant sharpness. Dark, ripe fruits and spicy wood. Cinnamon and nutmeg, dark caramel and also dark chocolate. With a little water, the spicy aromas become stronger and dried fruit appears.
    • Finish
      A never-ending spicy-sweet pleasure.

A really tasty whisky. I would have typed it a lot older blindly. The sample was fun. But it won't be a large bottle. With its over 200 € it is too expensive for me.
    • Nose
Quite a spicy and hearty nose. Dark wood notes. Gravy. A little maggi herb. But then comes more tart plum jam. Bread with fruits. Caramel. Tobacco and leather. Nutmeg. Tree bark.
    • Taste
A lot sweeter in the mouth than in the nose. The hearty notes are actually gone now. Dark forest honey. Red fruit jelly. Wild berries. Red wine cake gone dark. Fudge. Then pleasant wood flavor.
    • Finish
Sour cherry juice. Roasted nuts. Cocoa. Nice oak notes.

  29. Kensay scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

Awesome nose, the barrel played great and gave a lot of whisky. The characteristic features of the aged port are very clear. Intense, sweet, open and vibrant, classically balanced whisky. Thick and dark in the glass like herbal liqueur, it can be practically chewed
    • Nose
      91 91
Intense dessert, immediately doused with raisins and prunes, dried fruits in the dusty grandmother's attic, cherry jam, coriander and dark chocolate, tanned leather, tobacco leaves
    • Taste
      90 90
spices and dried fruits, dark chocolate with raisins, cherry liqueur, raw skin, walnuts. Thick, dense and rich, but alcohol does not clog it, but rather the opposite - serves as a background
    • Finish
      90 90
persimmon, spices, dried fruit with nuts, long-lasting and warming, consistent development of nose and body, warm and harmonious

    STRONG!

  31. wbarchive_721011 scored this whisky 90 points Expert Junior

Impressions after the first 2cl of a 10cl sample: At first cautious, but then a strong, heavy and full nose with the usual suspects with dark, red and sweet fruits. The fruits are followed by chocolate and, after a while, a mixture of herbs. Slightly fresh on the nose. The taste repeats the aromas with red fruits, chocolate with a high cocoa content, oak and tanine are discreetly noticeable, again the herbs, dominant here Maggiekraut, dry for me, not sweet. Tingling accompanies the impressions, which has a disruptive effect on my taste buds. Long, dry, spicy, dry and fruity finish and that annoying tingling again. With water, I find it much more pleasant in the nose, in the taste and in the finish. The tingling and thus the disturbing influence disappears, the notes are easier to grasp for me, the malt seems more coherent.
If I need water and time, then it's a really great malt.

CASK OF THE MOMENT: 15YO SINGLE CASK NO. 38
    £190.00
    70cl 55.6% Vol

The Glengoyne "Cask of the Moment" is a unique series of single casks selected by the Distillery Team. Each bottle is hand drawn from the cask housed within the Distillery Shop. The label is signed by one of our team and carefully applied to each bottle.

This particular "Cask of the Moment" is somewhat special as it was chosen by our viewers who joined Robbie Hughes, Gordon Dundas and special guests for a rare live cask whisky tasting from Facebook and YouTube on the 28th August 2020.

On the evening viewers were invited to vote for which of the four single cask whiskies, selected by Robbie Hughes should be the next Glengoyne "Cask of the Moment".

The winning cask that prevailed on the night was a Port Pipe. Filled in January 2005, aged 15 Years Old this whisky is extremely rare as not many distilleries fill Port Pipes. The depth of colour from this whisky is outstanding and fantastic on the nose.

  34. Kantenmechaniker scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Really great and exciting, you can tell that an extraordinary port barrel was involved, as well as a really good swimmer who doesn't collapse even with a good shot of water, but rather brings another possibly even better enjoyment experience. I could still buy a bottle, but unfortunately the framework data is not enough for me. But it's good to be able to try the sample.
    • Nose
The first thing that comes to mind is a juicy steak, somehow meaty, but then the expected port wine notes, sour cherry, dark chocolate, a few drops of Maggi spice, creamy, from time to time milk chocolate comes through, light sweetness, red berries, slightly floral, grassy, dense aromas with good spice, meat broth with red wine, sounds strange, but is really easy to smell, waxy in the background, exciting
    • Taste
wow, great start, intense, sweet, red berries, dark, chocolatey, a little pepper, sour cherry, creamy, then a little oak, espresso, becoming tart, creamier with water, more chocolate, even nuts, sweeter, for me personally more accessible , less oak
    • Finish
tart, nuts are added, mint, fresh mouthfeel, still slightly dark, cherry and mint, there is still a chewing gum, that's how I imagine it, long-lasting, and then now also some meat broth from the nose, green apple still appears on, very clearly, the freshness remains extremely long

  39. LeChiffre scored this whisky 94 points Connoisseur

For me the best port barrel matured malt I've had in my glass so far. There is nothing like good old barrels (here from 1977 according to R. Hughes - previously stored in port for almost 30 years) instead of the more and more widespread "seasoned casks". An intensive ripening without being overly superimposed. The alcohol is well integrated, doesn't need any water. Exciting aroma profile. Top class!
    • Nose
wow you can smell that it is a special port barrel; spicy; dark fruity sweet; lots of plums and raisins; dark cherries; Berries; Caramel; dark chocolate; Spices; Leather and tobacco; nicely integrated oak seasoning (old wood)
    • Taste
voluminous; full bodied; strong and spicy; dark-fruity-sweet; Dried fruits; Plums; Raisins; Sour cherry; dark chocolate; peppery spice notes; Pepper; some leather; spicy oak
    • Finish

  40. Uisgebea scored this whisky 96 points Expert Senior

I tasted it as part of a tasting kit. For me the clear winner although all participating single casks have been well chosen.

This has been by far the best Port Cask matured whisky I ve tried in my 30 years of whisky drinking.

I am not that good in descriptions but what I can say this has a perfect maturation. The smell and taste just blows you away, fruity plum raisin fig all over the place. Its been a really generous cask which lets you expect a lot older whisky. You could worry it will overwhelm the Glengoyne whisky character.

To make it short, it does not. The taste is a great mix of distillery and cask. Its perfect like it is. it does not need water, actually it does not take water very well in my view but with its smootheness it does not need it anyway.

The finish is quite long for a 15 year old and very complex. This is a dram that gives you a diverse and fascinating expierience. WOW. I can hardly wait for my bottle to be delivered.

If it were not as expensive I would probably buy a few more bottles. Anyway its a whisky you should at least taste once in your life.
