Nose: In the nose, I get soft buttery-sweet notes that are very reminiscent of caramel and pastries. This is accompanied by milk chocolate and a little fruit. This is more in the direction of ripe orange. I also find cinnamon, hazelnuts, nutmeg and a little freshly sawn wood. Over time, essential oils emerge from the glass, giving the impression of freshly broken conifers. The alcohol is nicely integrated and is hardly noticeable despite the almost 62% vol.

Taste: I also have a nice, almost sticky mouthfeel on the tongue. The mouth smoke is lined with oily and the notes of pastry come to the fore. Sweet vanilla, cocoa mass, nut chocolate, black pepper, again caramel and a dash of orange.

Finish: Medium with nutmeg, cinnamon and lingering sweetness. The wood brings a subtle flavor and here, too, a little orange zest.

This is a 1A smelling whisky! The alcohol is already noticeable in the nose, but the caramel note is so indescribably awesome!

Caramel without end, but also a lot of alcohol.
    • Taste

There's not much of the caramel left. The alcohol is in the foreground, at least at the beginning. I only tried without water.
    • Finish

Medium long with a pleasant sweetness, but the alcohol is still present.

Another Glenrothes that I like. The whisky is the ideal companion for the autumn mood that is just beginning. I really liked this great toffee note in the nose. The tangy / fruity in the mouth was pleasant and warming for the cooler season. The sherry barrel is recognizable, but thankfully it hasn't whitewashed the malt, as has so often happened in the recent past.

The 13 year old Glenrothes shimmers with a reddish golden hue in the Premium Snifter. Due to the high alcohol content of 61.8%, it only hugs the edge of the glass as a thin film and only runs slowly down it.

Right at the beginning, a potpourri of classic sherry notes with a hint of leather aromas develop on the nose. Then hazelnut is presented covered with dark chocolate. The almost 62% alcohol is amazingly well integrated, there is absolutely no stinging in the nose, no menthol or the like.

After a few minutes of relaxation in the glass, very nice aromas of soft milk teas and milk chocolate with orange pieces with cinnamon and vanilla develop.

A tasty, soft mouthfeel. The malt starts out surprisingly sparkling and peppery. Together with beautiful Christmas oriental spices such as cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. After the first impression, it quickly becomes pleasantly fruity and sweet and then stays that way until the end. Very easy to drink without water. With a few drops to dilute, the initial sharpness is reduced and the malt becomes rounder. Although I stick to it, it is more exciting without water.

The oak only appears at the end. Aromatic and less bitter. The finish is medium long and becomes even more fruity towards the finale. With minimal water intake, delicate tobacco nuances are added to the end.

A beautiful sherry barrel aged whisky. It brings distinct sherry flavors without being an overloaded sherry bomb.
    • Nose
Definitely cocoa powder. Pickled raisins and plums, oranges and candied nuts. Vanilla notes come through. Citrus notes become clearer. A pleasant chilli heat carries the aromas. After a while, you will also find spicy notes such as nutmeg and cardamom. Overall dark, warm aromas.
    • Taste
Chili chocolate with raisins and caramel pieces. Roasted nuts again, plus coffee beans and dark chocolate. Also white pepper, some polished leather and old wood. The raisins and plums can also be seen again.
    • Finish
Spice and dark chocolate linger in the front of the mouth. The hot chilli heats its way into the palate and throat.

The sherry influences are not excessive here. But it can score with a great fruitiness that you might not have expected. A very pleasant and drinkable whisky.

The first hint of roasted grain and a maltiness on the nose, which are immediately covered by fruity aromas. No alcohol sharpness whatsoever can be heard at this high alcohol concentration. The fruit notes are dominated by peach and light strawberry tones and there are subtle hints of dried fruit. Beeswax and honey scent are also added later and wonderfully round off the smell. If you smell it for a long time, there are also slight cocoa notes. On the nose, the malt is wonderfully rich and really pleasant.

At first you feel an unbelievable sweetness on the palate, the taste of which you can't immediately grasp. This sweetness is now changing to the fruitiness of peaches and apricots. The honey tones and beeswax that you already had in your nose can now be tasted great again. Now the taste changes slowly to a bitter cigar note and a spiciness of pepper and ginger dominates. This is accompanied by a light cocoa note. The malt is very soft in taste, despite the high alcohol percentage. A soft, clean malt.

Long and peppery. The sharpness that you felt in the taste at the end is also clearly noticeable in the finish and notes of citrus fruit peel are now added.

The magician is very robust and has a large volume. Fortunately, it's not all just a show. It's a match! Full review (german): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2020/09/01/mehr-speyside-im-glas/

A powerful, sherry cask-matured Glenrothes, which for me is not the classic sherry bomb. I like it because the fruity, spicy and herbal aromas are not overpowered by a sherry sweetness. You can play with water, but in my opinion not much changes. A promising start for a new bottling series. Sherry aficionados, however, might be a bit disappointed.

I thank whic (Whiskycircle) for the complimentary sample.

    • Nose
Notes of ripe sherry, together with dark dried fruit, cherries and dates. Caramel, dark chocolate and cinnamon are added, followed by some furniture polish as well as spicy notes of nutmeg and a touch of oak.
    • Taste
Powerful with an initial creamy sweetness of toffee and raisins. Then clearly warming and also spicy with cinnamon, oak, nutmeg and black pepper. Dark chocolate, herbs and oak linger towards the finish.
    • Finish
The finish shows a medium length with dry notes of wood, cocoa, herbs, leather and pepper.

With water: After the addition of water it becomes fresher and more floral on the nose with sherry, dates, fine hazelnut aromas, toffee and chocolate. Still sweet and warming on the palate with dark fruits, chocolate, pepper and cinnamon. The finish is still medium long and dry with cocoa, oak, herbs and leather.
