Whisky Reviews for Glenfarclas 1988

5 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 88.50 points

  1. hs305 scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

[January, 2002]  Together with friends I emptied a bottle that I bought for 44 Euro (86,50 Deutschmark) in December, 2000.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  My notes state a clean and very quaffable sherry profile.

WARNING:  Not that I want to impose my taste or score on anyone else - but it seems that a gang for "top score pushers" are at work here that do the same with other average bottles too like WB id 59475 or 4463 or 42859.  Do they belong to the shoplink?

  2. Thermidor did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

DreamMalt and all his other accounts seem to have overvoted this whisky too. This guy and his sock puppets like July-Malt etc. are worthless as actual opinions. I don't know if this person has an actual primary account by some name here but it plain sucks to have members like this.

  3. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 87 points Connoisseur

Very solid GF from the late 80s, extremely mature for its age, but suffers a little from the fact that it only uses the complete standard note repertoire, a bit too dry ... yeah, good but not outstanding.
    • Nose
Quite gloomy for 12y, a lot of leather, nut chocolate, cocoa powder, a lot of dried fruits, apricots, peach, plums, candied in slices, candied ginger, cumin, raisins, tick red apple, everything with the Oloroso-typical dryness, pecans
    • Taste
Full load of intense dried fruits, apricot, plum, peach, some sour cherries, raisins, dates still slightly mushy, hazelnut, chestnut, tick cumin and fennel, tick nutmeg, black pepper, nice coffee
    • Finish
Dry, red apple with peel, nuts, chestnut, leather, raisins, bitter orange, medium length, coffee

Pleasant in all respects GF, well balanced and pleasing, with a long finish, despite 43%. 22-21.5-22.5-22
