This is similar to cask 28 for LMDW , hints of sulphur and very sweet with a big toffee note, i cannot help but think that strong Sherry casks over power the Daftmill spirit a little and the distillery is more suited to bourbon casks like the winter and summer releases and the excellent bourbon cask 37/2007 for japan.
However sometimes it goes right like the excellent cask 39 which is one of my favourite whiskies of the last few years or so

    Blind Tasting: February 2022
    • Nose
Meaty and heavy. Sweetness, with raisins and dried fruits. A sherry bomb with alcohol in its nose.
    • Taste
Dark honey sweetness, oak wood with a little bitterness, furniture lacquer, heavy in alcohol, dried fruits, dark chocolate, spices.
    • Finish
Dark forest honey, light spices, and some plums and raisins. Bitter dark chocolate and dried fruits.

Sweet warm sherry notes and coffee. A hint of ginger in the background.
Feels like all the making of a sherry bomb?
    • Taste
      91 91
Oak, sweet PX sherry and varnish/old furniture and honey/heather.
      A perfect level of alcohol.
    • Finish
      90 90
Warm sherry sweetnes and spices/herbs from the european oak.
a perfect mix of PX sherry and sulphur.

I believe 8000 entrants applied via ballot, for the chance to buy a bottle from an outturn of just 321 bottles. The Foz got lucky and has split his bottle amongst participating Swaggers.

N: Very Glenallachie 15yo-like [WLP85], sherry-syrup/PX-wise. Almost meaty, certainly with a phenolic oily touch, but mainly, this one talks of boozy raisins.

T: Very fruity, thankfully not too sweet, but very formidable at strength. Reduced down to 39% abv, we see a similar theme with a different colour palate.

F: Not exactly resinous, well sort of.

C: Definitely the most cask-driven Daftmill of those that I’ve tried [just 7 plus a few cask samples]. Very pleasant all the same.
