Light smoke and ash. Sweetish with light sherry.
Boom. A lot of smoke, wood and dry. Little sweetie comes up.
Long and enjoyable. Again a lot of smoke
- Nose: rather friendly for such a devilish cask number. Sherry influence is not was heavy as one would expect. Lots of clean peat
Taste: Bonfires with boiled red fruits.
Finish: a bit burning and bitter.
- A lot of smoke, heavily peated, dry, salt, charcoal, bacon, intense! Young. I do not recognize the sherry influence, maybe too young? A fine malt!
- The nose was too restricted for me, the taste delivered. Still, I think that Kilchoman is not exactly my profile. Nevertheless, it's good quality.
Rather uncomplicated, smoky and moderately briny. The smoke seems rather dry, as coming from a drier variant of peat, plus from wood (bonfire) and even incense. It reminds me a little of lapsang souchong and pu erh tea. I notice the oxidation effect of sherry, but no big bold fruitiness. Some grass completes the nose.
Much more in your face! Wham bam what an attack! Sweet, sour, dry smoke (mainly bonfire smoke), a little bbq ash, farm. It's still not so fruity, and delivers quite some pepper and ginger, and caramel, getting a tad bitter.
Long, lemony, gingery, farmy, leaving a bitter finale with is a bit too much if you ask me.
- All in all still good to drink, but rather half-baked. The barrel was clearly too dominant here and obscured everything in the alcohol, except for the negative properties; On the one hand the alcohol is quite rough, on the other hand too young and metallic. Kilchoman can definitely do a lot better!
At first sour, musty notes and unmistakably Sherry (Oloroso) influence. The smoke is not yet noticeable. Life brings peace, the sherry continues to dominate. Lots of furniture polish, floor wax and barrel acid, including a few dried fruits. The alcohol is well integrated, for Kilchoman still quite noticeable. The quite biological smoke (cowshed) in this case is still hard to make out, so barrel-heavy is the whisky. Almost grotesque seem the Anfllüge floral notes that pass in between. It warms up sweeter, the smoke moves a bit towards the campfire.
Also in the mouth a lot of acid, which struggles for a long time with the dark sweetness for the supremacy and wins in the end also. The alcohol could be better integrated and maybe pushes a bit too strong, moreover, it is quite metallic. Here, too, the barrel massively dominates the spirit, even Kilchoman has problems there to prevail.
In the long finish, the sweetness comes back and now displaces the acid, before it fades and leaves only slightly salty ash on the tongue.
