i dont get why this whisky was so hyped. i mean, it is a decent dram but for me personally the amount of fresh french oak in this one is too high which makes it to (fresh) oaky with this young spices i do not like in whisky. sometimes i get too much of that in a fresh bottle and it gets better with time but unfortunately not with this one.

fizzy fruit, red fruit but not dried, cranberries, some virgin oak notes, sweet candy, kiwi,
    • Taste

red apple compott, a lot of spicy oak notes which i am not a big fan of, makes it quite unround. a lot of oaky bitterness which annoys me.

middle long with a light burn.

Great whisky for its price, my favorite basic 12YO scotch.

Glenallachie 12 years, 46% alc. Original bottling (2020). Expansion: Bourbon casks (first fill) and post-maturation in sherry casks (PX & Oloroso) and in new oak casks

Nose: Sweet and fruity as I expected. The fruit aromas go in the direction of berries in particular. Blackberries, black currants, grapes. With some time in the air, the whisky becomes drier, as does the fruit. I can now smell dried cranberries and raisins, along with pastries and some unripe bananas, with a delicate milky coffee in the background.

Palate: Still sweet and fruity, but more spices come to the fore here, I particularly notice cinnamon and cloves, as well as a hint of nutmeg. Almonds, marzipan and cinnamon, dried plums and raisins follow.

Finish: Fairly long and dry, carries on as before. The cinnamon aroma increases again.

Conclusion: Beautiful line with a focus on a balanced mixture of fruit and spice, but without leaving too much room for one of the two components. Damn good quality for a standard bottling. 84/100 points (2021)

A plateful of pancakes simmered in maple syrup, with soft chewy dried banana on the side and a little unsweetened black currant source, garnished by a piece of mint leaf or two.

Maple syrup, molasse and hard candy, can't not think of a plateful of pancakes simmered in syrup! And surprisingly full of dark fruits given its age! There's a whiff of soft, chewy dried banana slices. May be some grape juice in the back too. Not complex, but really rich... or overwhelmingly syrupy to be more exact!

What're in the nose are in the palate. But there's a little black currant that complemented the sweetness. There's some roasted cashew skin, tons of caramel and some loaf bread. The mouthfeel is mellow and mild. Rarely, the palate is better then the nose, so this uphill experience is another surprise!

There're some mint at the back of the throat, which is splendid! There's also black tea. It'd score higher if there is less bitterness.

4.15 Aroma: Vanilla, Raisin, Between Toffee and Chocolate

Taste: Spicy as soon as you take a sip, followed by roasted bananas, or cornstarch or overripe grapes? The nuance finish is the bittersweet taste of ginger and dark chocolate.
I am very satisfied except for the fact that the tannins are a bit rough, maybe because of the virgin oak.

Will repurchase if the price is right
It's not full sherry, but there's quite a bit of sherry kosun when you sniff in an empty glass.

Aroma: open, fortified sweet wine, a huge set of dried fruits, - figs, dates, dried apricots, pears, dried cranberries, all poured with syrup and mixed in one container. In the background are chocolate shades, caramel, a touch of malt, oak and wax.

Taste: rather mild, light spices - cinnamon, cloves, a little black pepper, a lot of dark raisins, prunes, tobacco, dark chocolate, astringent wood.

Finish: oily, wood, berry jam, dark raisins, prunes, everything is seasoned with chocolate, medium length.

    Score: 85

Bottom line: the barrels won in this batch, the infernal mixing of active barrels did not give GlenAllachie a chance, only light malt notes slip through in the aroma.

Well, at least now, the same thing has happened to the 12 as to the rest of Billy Walker's range. The whisky was drowned in sherry. It's a shame.

Very rich on nose, sour cherries, clementines, wood notes, bit of chocolate, tabacco and orange. Mouthwatering, slightly overwhelming, agressive wood notes. Less sweet than 15y and more oaky. Decent whisky for good value. Price/performance 9/10. Expectation scale 10/8
