    An Islay cask which is used here to give a peat characteristic!
    nose:
    vegetable smoke, intense wood, a little vanilla
    mixed fruit in a compote
    a little on malt and almond, back on caramelized oak and lime
    mouth:
    bitterness, peppery spices, then cooked fruit, the peat which then returns, but dry, not maritime
    a little on the fruit brandy, it stings, the peat is woody and spicy
    finish:
    spicy, heat that remains at the back of the throat, smoke more than peat that swirls and passes with the wind.
    Rather short finish.

    Well worth trying - it's a really decent whisky - considering it's only 3 years old it's cracking.

      Initially tastes very smooth - glides across the plate before hitting you with a spicy punch.

    A vatting of carefully selected EX-BOURBON OAK CASKS that have been finished in HEAVILY PEATED EX-ISLAY OAK CASKS.

    First fill Bourbon Barrels:
    - 1st fill bourbon barrels impart sweet flavours of vanilla and caramel alongside a creamy texture.

    Ex-Peated Quarter Casks:
    - Our ex-peated casks were previously used to mature heavily peated Islay single malt whisky. Here they are used as a finish, adding a delicate subtle smokiness

    WHISKY MAKER’S NOTES:

    - NOSE: Crisp and clean with aromas of fresh peach, toffee and vanilla cream alongside floral notes of juniper, wispy smoke and tobacco leaves .

    - PALATE: A bolder palate with a rich, oily and full mouthfeel.Stone fruits and lime zest are joined by crumbled biscuits whilst charcoal and medicinal peat smoke run throughout.

    - FINISH: Lingering smokiness punctuated by a fizz of White pepper.

    Not the first time this distillery – that only laid down casks in 2016 – positively takes me by surprise. Very glad I joined the Klub, thus getting the opportunity to get my hands on one of the 1750 bottles as missing out on numerous open sales before.
    • Nose
      Not immediately the nose you would expect reading the label, the Laphroaig cask influence on the aroma’s is well underneath malts, honey, breakfast cereals, apricots and peaches … Gentle dose of vanilla and caramel as well, more prominent toffee and as it stood a little while even a small tobacco drought.
    • Taste
      Kinda turning the nose right upside down now: peat, smoke, coal, ashes on top at first, not really much sign of coastal or medicinal notes though as in for instance the Laphroaig 10. More spice (pepper and ginger mostly), oak before toffee and honey sweetness, stone fruits, gentle milky coffee flavors, … Next few sips turn drier like the nose did after a while, bringing up moderate dry fruitiness. Given the obviously young age this shows amazing fullness, balance and complexity.
    • Finish
      Firm raise in the peat and smoke as well as the pepper and ginger, long lasting, particularly warming, tingling even at times, bit more tobacco drought too.

    The initial whisky was matured in bourbon barrels, before then being further matured in Laphroaig quarter casks and then Ardmore casks. The peat finish is from the casks and not the spirit itself.
