    Marsala

This Longmorn was bottled last year by Hart Brothers. It’s a young malt, at cask strength, that was finished on a Marsala wine cask.

The nose is pretty shy. It takes a while before it offers some strawberry and melon, sprinkled with icing sugar and wet wood. Becomes sweeter after it has breathed somewhat. So sweet in fact, that it turns a bit candy-like.

Good body, round and sweet with lots of strawberry jam and yellow hard candy. Big pinch of pepper too. A soft bitterness as if from a grape pith appears midpalate and makes it slightly drying. The alcohol is quite prominent, though.

The finish is quite nice on more fruit than expected as well as some dark notes of caramel and overripe fruit. I had expected the mouth to be left dry, but that does not happen. It does die quite a bitter death.

Nice young Longmorn that took quite a lot of sweetness from the Marsala. Thanks for the sample, Benny.

Not a bad dram by all means, but rather one to share with friends in good company. It's a rather easy whisky: rounded, fruity, with a bit of bitterness. For me, it's too artificial (red fruit, alcoholic, sugared) and I miss the herbal note of the distillery character.
    • Nose
      82 82
The nose is a bit alcoholic and closed. Water helps a little, but it releases a sugar-driven nose instead. Pear drops, strawberry jam, melon, moist wood.
    • Taste
      82 82
The taste is rather rounded and again somewhat alcoholic and sugared. A lot of fruit confectionery and jams. There is a little sting from the alcohol and a spicy/bitter note of pepper and grape seed.
    • Finish
      83 83
A bit darker now, almost earthy. It's probably from the wood. Ripe forest fruit, gravel, coconut, sandal wood and still a spicy/bitter aftertaste of pepper and grape seed.
