Red fruits, quite some powerful but drinkable, not very complex actually. Just okay, a bit disappointing though, not the sherrycask influence that you would expect from Glendronach.
    • Nose
      83 83
Some red fruits, berries, a bit sour and vegetal, ripe apples. Some alcohol punching.
    • Taste
      84 84
Quite smooth now initially, then some pickering mouthfeel comes up, but not too hefty. Quitr drinkable for its Abv, some red fruits, berries, not very complex though.
    • Finish
      83 83
More smooth now, red fruits, some berries, medium long.

Nose : orange, dark chocholate, spices
Plate : still the orange (orange peel, bitter orange) for me...interesting. Spices, still the dark chocholate, you got what your nose promise you. Not an average oloroso cask imho, but it was nice to try.

Not all whiskies that are sold by IBs are necessarily better than the official versions and that single casks would be better than married whiskies. There are so many IBs that have to make a living and have to sell many bottlings. Single casks may stand out if they are good, but they can be negative to a distillery's quality if the wood isn't good.

In this case, both situations apply. This whisky is too alcoholic without water and too bitter with water. It's not balanced and doesn't live up to the quality that Glendronach would offer. I guess they would choose to marry this one (or to use different casks, who knows).
    • Nose

The nose is rather "leafy" and "earthy", like a forest in autumn. Then there is ginger bread, nutmeg and toffee. Then wood notes (dry wood), a mineral edge and some lemon zest. Far distant there is some old leather. Not unpleasant at all, but not overly expressive either.
    • Taste
      80 80
Sweeter than expected, almost like confectionery or bubble gum. The alcohol stings. With water, there is a bitterness from grape pips that is not very pleasant. Old leather, plenty of spices (chilli pepper, ginger, nutmeg), tobacco, wood. Quite monolithic and austere.
    • Finish
      79 79
Medium, but quite tannic. Again grape pip, lemon, chilli pepper, ginger, and nutmeg. Maybe a bit of leaf and leather.

Very alcoholic, doesn't necessarily get better with water. A weak Glendronach ...

  15. DerSchreckliche scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

Nose: Quite fresh and alcoholic, followed by ginger spice, appears light.

In the mouth and in the finish you notice the youth, a bit sharp and impetuous. Grapefruit bitterness and a little dry at the end.

No it's not for me. Is that supposed to be 1st fill? Then that was probably a bad barrel
