Whisky Reviews for Glengoyne 21-year-old

3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 90.07 points

  1. SAND scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

NOSE: Rather sherried nose with dried fruits and old wine / sherry barrel. (90p)
TASTE: The arrival is both dry with mild European oak spice and sweet with dried fruits and a little Christmas pudding and light sweetened tea (89p) With a few drops of water it becomes slightly drier and spicier (pepper).
FINISH: Sweet, sugared tea, sherry. Long aftertaste (89-90p)
OVERALL: Well made, well aged and well balanced sherried malt. But is it just a little too weak? I think 46% ABV would have suited this much better. Would Total score 89 points.

Wonderful and complex aroma, but you have to dig deep into your pocket for that.
I like the Glendronach 21 a little better.
    • Nose
Sweet and musty, heavy and old, very complex, hazelnut, wax, sherry, the longer in the glass, the more aromas come through
    • Taste
very light, cool, waxy, creamy, slightly bitter / spicy and yet somehow sweet. Just beautiful!
    • Finish
      dry, long-lasting

Very nice, complex and set malt. In a direct comparison with the Glendronach 21 Parliament, it only drops slightly. The Glendronach 21 is overall fruity and massive, even if you dilute it down to approx. 43%. With the Glengoyne 21, the bitterness of the oak slightly dominates the taste, but it is overall very noble and fine. For those who like well-matured sherry whiskys, these two representatives and the Glenfarclas at 21 years old (75 €) are actually a must, even if you consider the price of 100 € upwards for the first-mentioned whiskys.
