At first the smell of the farm and something fermented and yeasty that gives away the young age. But also wonderfully deep and aromatic peat smoke with the typical maritime-mineral aspects. Iodine tincture, sea salt, tree needles, smoked bacon, oak planks and essential oils (eucalyptus?).
The finish doesn't seem like it is slapped on and, in my perception, only expresses itself through a little additional sweetness, nuttiness and a hearty-salty component. Very well done.

Immediately reminds me of the annual 12-year Laga Special Releases. Impressive, immediately astringent and unexpectedly sour start. Then it becomes sweeter and more caramelized, almost chocolatey. Salted caramel, herbaceous smoky notes, umami. Very coherent, I could go for it. Or empty a whole bottle over the holidays, Lagavulin is always perfect for Christmas for me. ;)

Delicious, but somehow not quite as impressive as the rest. Also a bit more concise than expected with a slightly bitter note at the very end. Still good, that's complaining on a high level.

A cool, smoky, strong and rich drink.
    • Nose
Warm smoke, dried fruits (dates, prunes, raisins, apricots), which were dried over a dying fire. Tea brew, fresh grape leaves.
    • Taste
sweet, smoky, warm, with hints of dryness, which I love very much, full of dark dried fruits with tones of red apple.
    • Finish
Smoky, sweet aftertaste with dryness at the end.

Seldom drunk such a chocolaty whisky, intense, very tasty! Got better with every sip.
    • Nose
Dark chocolate, raisins, but dark chocolate sets the tone, cocoa, tobacco, when warmed it becomes smokier, campfire smoke., A little mint, fruity sweetness, a little spicy oak
    • Taste
Strong start, chocolatey, raisins, ashy smoke, intense, sweet, tingling, light acidity, very straightforward, but tasty, somehow reminds me of Lumumba, cocoa, wow so much chocolate
    • Finish
Mint, very chocolatey, salt, creamy, still very light smoke, pleasant and warming

i got this as a sample. i opened the bottle and the whole room filled with bacon/ham smoke. my guess, it must be a lagavulin.
strong, intense taste, mouthfilling, strong, savory, not too much fruity notes for me. long finish, they smoke stayed and stayed
    i like it!

to compare i took a glass of lagavulin distillers edition. of course the 43% are more smooth and balanced. i found the same smoked ham in this one, less strong, a bit more sweet experience overall.

a little sweet smoke, a little peppery, red fruits, a little vanilla, honey

Sweet, fruity, peaty, greasy and earthy. As always tasty and drinkable, unfortunately also interchangeable ...

    • Nose
Light rust with an orange shimmer rests in the glass, on the glass wall of my Premium Snifter oily and syrupy "legs" pull their thick strips back into the glass. Sweet peat rises, minimal smoke notes join in, greasy pork belly is left out in butter. Mineral with sweet and dark fruits, vanilla and sugar, hints of strawberries and juicy oranges, minimally musty. Raisins and dates, spicy wood and minimal hints of dried herbs and spices. Velvety fruity sweetness with peat and wood dominate ...
    • Taste
Sweet dried fruits wet the tongue, gentle peat and minimal smoke cover the palate with cozy warmth, currants and strawberries, raisins and dates, hints of creamy bacon and gravy, brine and a pinch of pepper, creamy and sweet ...
    • Finish
Subtly wooden with a peaty note of bacon. Dried grapes and berries, sweet and creamy, hints of hazelnut and dry leaves, earthy and gentle.

The finish didn't leave a lot of extra flavors here. By no means a bad whisky, but after the intensive sherry barrel maturation of the last few years, this one is a bit unexpectedly subtle for me. Very nice for friends of the distillery character.
    • Nose
      89 89
Light fruit notes, vanilla, oak, pepper, later also red fruits, subtle smoke notes, overall not as intense as previous bottlings.
    • Taste
      89 89
The alcohol is well integrated, the texture inconspicuous to slightly robust compared to its creamy predecessors. Better with water.
Vanilla, pepper, oak and honey, light and red fruit notes in the background.
    • Finish
      90 90
Medium to long, beautiful oak bitterness and pleasant smoke elements merge, sweetness and spiciness accompany, the 1816 distillery character is very present.
