A very good Islay whisky for its age. However, I wouldn't spend more than 40 euros.
    • Nose
      89 89
Lapsang Souchong, tar, herbs, seaweed, sea salt, fishing nets, smoked fish.
    • Taste
      87 87
peat ashes, tar, black pepper, sea water, winter herbs
    • Finish
      85 85
      medium to short

On the nose, malty and peaty sensation, slightly meaty peat, soot, candied fruit, intense, freshness, a little mango, full of lemon and peppery spices.
the palate brings fresh and fleeting scents, you have to dive back into it to find bitter almonds, fortunately a little hidden by the peaty ash, always a little meaty, salty and herbaceous
the finish is simple but intense, spicy, lemony, grassy and tarry; a beautiful young product that changes color, less subtle but more raw and that should not be underestimated, except for the medium length.

Yoghurt, whey, hay, farmyard, earthy peat.

My first impression makes me think of younger, independently bottled, heavily peated Bunnahabhain, and that is not exactly a compliment.

We'll see how the bottle progresses...

An honest but very (too) young Ardbeg. We feel the potential of the distillery, but we remain very, very far from the quality of the 10 year old.

Super young nose. Lots of liveliness, lemon, peat, gentian. A little synthol. We do not find the gourmet side of Ten.
    • Taste
      84 84
A little rough, bitter, vegetal in the mouth, followed by a lot of peat. Slightly creamy texture, not very sweet, but we could hope for better. More iodized finish, synthol.
    • Finish
      84 84
Peppery, grassy, rather ashy and peaty finish. Quite hard.

I'm very surprised how unclean the distillate seems to have been compared to the normally very clean spirit Ardbeg makes. Have they been doing something different when distilling this?

Besides the heavy smoke and citrus coming with the young age, there is a lot of fusel oils, farmyard and even some yeasty notes. It seems to help to quaff it in large gulps, but I'm on a verge of finding it undrinkable.

I'll revisit my score once half of the bottle has been poured to unsuspecting guests or used as a household alcohol and it has hopefully improved with some air.

A peat bomb from Islay. Very young spirit, but also seductive.
    • Nose
Massive smoke, rubber boots, adhesive plaster, sweet malt,
    • Taste
Smoke, tar, soot, herbs, pine needles, lemon, salt. New make must taste like this.
    • Finish
      Sweet, herbs, pepper, chili

boring and flat whisky, nothing to write about. Although it does not cause rejection
