Insane. Nothing much else to say when you insist on tasting as they're bottled and don't add water. Keep that in mind when looking at my ratings.

Very light furniture polish, very light raisins and dates, fresh green apple skin, vanilla, honey, light toffee, light grassy notes, lemon oil, oranges, cloves, leather.

Absolutely insane. Sincerely regretting that I only review them as they're bottled right now. Alcohol burn is just massive. Dampens the flavours for sure. Light floral notes, freshly cut grass, oak, orange oil, sweetness is quite low. Dried figs, apple skin. Second chew is even crazier. My tongue burns like never before. A bit drier, some light roasted banana, banana skins, toffee, steamed carrots, fragrant olive oil. Third chew is the death blow. Vulcanic eruption, burns like acid and so dry that my cheeks are literally squeaking against the sides of my tongue. Torture more than a review, this one. Bitter grassy notes, toffee, but not much else. Gave it a few extra points for being out of this world.

Light grassy notes, herbs, banana skins, roasted banana, toffee, a bit of lemon oil. Very light note of sulphur poked in to say hello as well.

  2. Nergal did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

SMWS tasting notes: The Panel were pleasingly perplexed by initial notes of aged sparkling red wines, strong Earl grey tea, ripe figs, lemon peel and toasted hazelnuts. All manner of notes emerged from the depths: roasted peanuts, spicy young dessert wines, fresh apples, banana liqueur, bubble gum, gunpowder, spiced dark fruit chutneys and freshly picked wild mushrooms.

With water it became more balanced and aromatically cohesive. Aged rioja, lemon barley water, touches of dried lavender and damp earthiness. The palate opened with spicy chilli and tannin laced with sweet raisins and prune eau de vie. Notes of caramelised onions, aged balsamic, almonds and sticky treacle pudding. Reduction once again soothed things and brought orange blossoms, fragrant waxes, apricot preserve, thick wood spices and a menthol eucalyptus aspect.

Young and posh, I don't need it in the glass.

    Nose:
I smell nougat and raisins first, followed by spicy notes and floral hints. A hint of dried fruit and a rich leather note are added. With a few drops of water, the malt becomes pleasantly sweet with notes of citrus and herbs.

    Taste:
A fiery entrance! With the first sip I hear dark fruit, especially plums stand out. The malt opens with water and I taste Mon Chéri pralines. In the end, the dram looks flowery, almost perfumed.

    Departure:
Medium length and creamy, a bit sweet with a spicy finish.

    Comment:
This Society bottling is very voluminous, it takes time in the glass and some water.
